BEAGLE Plymouth & District 4th April 2026
Post Graduate Dog/Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st – Breeze’s Parkebreeway Buckle Bunny — Best Puppy in Breed
A beautifully balanced bitch of just nine months, showing a maturity of outline and construction that belied her age. Her head is good, with a kind eye of correct colour and shape, and her ears are set low and of good leather, falling correctly to the cheek. Her shoulder placement is excellent, with a corresponding length of upper arm ensuring her legs sit well under the body, giving her a correct and upright front. Her topline is level and firm, her ribcage shows good spring and depth extending well back, and she presents good feet — tight and firm, as required by the Standard. Her angulation is balanced fore and aft. She moved soundly and freely, tracking true in both directions, and showed herself off to great advantage throughout. A very exciting youngster for the future and a well-deserved Best Puppy & Reserve Best of Breed. She went on to get 3rd in the Hound Puppy Group.
2nd – Oak & Pratt’s Michelroy Boston Tea Party by Floridgebay
A slightly larger bitch than my winner but very much in balance and well within type. She presented a nice head with well-set ears, and a good layback of shoulder. Her chest was deep and well-sprung, her topline level and firm, and her tail set and carriage both correct per the Standard. Moved well and was presented in good order. A close decision between first and second.
3rd – Adey’s Boskenna Enchanted at Rubeusbay.
Open D/B (3,1)
A very pleasing class of Beagles, presenting a good overall standard.
1st – Quantick’s Parkebreeway Rumour JW
A well-balanced tricolour dog who immediately caught the eye with his overall shape and presence. He presents a correct, typey head with a good flat skull, well-defined stop, and strong square muzzle; correct scissor bite and a kind, dark hazel eye of good size and shape. His ears are set low and fine in leather, falling close to the cheek as required. He carries a good length of neck flowing cleanly into a well-laid shoulder with a corresponding length of upper arm, allowing his forelegs to be well placed under him; elbows tight and not turning in or out. Good depth of chest, with well-sprung ribs extending well back, providing the required capacity. His topline is level and firm, supported by a short, strong loin. Tail set and carriage are correct — carried gaily but not curled over the back. He shows good turn of stifle with well let-down hocks, giving balanced angulation fore and aft. Moved with drive and purpose, covering the ground efficiently. Showed with great confidence. Delighted to award him Best of Breed.
2nd – Breeze’s Parkebreeway Wyseman JW
A tan and white dog of good type, presenting a pleasing head with correct eye, good bite and an adequate length of neck. His front construction and depth of chest were commendable. On this occasion he was slightly longer in the back than my winner, which slightly disrupted the balance of outline, and he was not quite matching his kennelmate’s movement on the day. Nevertheless, a worthy second in a competitive class.

PLYMOUTH & DISTRICT PREMIER OPEN SHOW 4th April 2026
IBIZAN HOUND
Open Dog (4 entries, 3 absent)
1st – Carter’s Ch L-Wynd’s Where The Shadow Ends JW (Imp USA) — Best of Breed
A 22-month-old male of good balance and overall shape. His head is masculine yet fine, with a long, flat skull, prominent occipital bone and a slightly convex muzzle of correct proportions. He has a correct scissor bite, and his clear amber eyes are well placed, almond-shaped and expressive. His ears are large, thin and highly mobile, carried erect and alert as required by the Standard, set at eye level and in a continuous line with the arch of the neck when viewed in profile. He carries a very lean, long, muscular and slightly arched neck, flowing into characteristically steep, short shoulder blades, with strong, straight forelegs well placed beneath him and erect pasterns of good length. His breastbone is prominent as required, and his ribcage is long and flat, with the correct depth between ribcage and elbow. His back is level with the correct slight slope from the pin bones to the rump, supported by a short, strong, well-coupled loin. Tail is long, thin and low set, reaching well below the hock, with correct set and carriage. He moved with the breed’s characteristic suspended trot — a long, far-reaching stride with a pleasing hover before placing each foot to the ground. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.
Open Bitch (2 entries, 1 absent)
1st – Carter’s Ch Afilador Room On The Broom ShCM, ShCEx, V — Reserve Best of Breed
A spritely and remarkably well-preserved bitch of 10½ years, who commands immediate admiration for her quality and condition at this age. Her head is good, with a fine, long, flat skull and correct almond-shaped amber eye. Her ears are large, thin and highly mobile, carried correctly erect when alert. Her forequarter construction reflects the breed’s characteristic steep, short shoulder blades, with a good length of upper arm, and her pasterns remain strong and erect for her age — a particular credit to her constitution. Her chest has good depth, and her ribcage is long and flat with a very prominent breastbone, as the Standard requires. She was enjoying herself tremendously in the ring and, full of joie de vivre, did not always hold her topline — which should show a level back with a slight slope from the pin bones to the rump — on the move. However, when settled and stood at the end of the class she relaxed into a correct and composed outline, demonstrating that the construction is there. Her tail set is good. On the move she retained glimpses of the breed’s signature suspended trot, which was pleasing to see in a veteran of her age. A most worthy Reserve Best of Breed.

IPLYMOUTH & DISTRICT PREMIER OPEN SHOW4th April 2026
HAMILTONSTÖVARE
Graduate D/B (1)
1st – Adey’s The Huntress From Sufayre — Reserve Best of Breed
A well-presented tricolour bitch of three years, giving a good overall impression of the breed’s required rectangular, well-proportioned outline, conveying the impression of strength and stamina without any suggestion of heaviness. Her head is longish and rectangular as called for by the Standard, with a well-defined stop and a long, large, rectangular muzzle. Her almond-shaped dark brown eyes carry the calm, tranquil expression required. Her ears are set fairly high, with a soft, straight fall and are correctly raised only slightly above the skull. Her neck is long and powerful, with supple, close-fitting skin, merging well into the shoulder. Her shoulders are muscular and well laid back, with a long upper arm well angulated to the shoulder; her elbows were set slightly loose to the body on this occasion, which is an area for the future, though this did not markedly detract from her overall outline and did not affect her on the move. Her forelegs are straight and parallel when viewed from the front. She has a good depth of chest — as the Standard requires, approximately half her height at the withers — with ribs of moderate spring and proportionately long back ribs. Her back is straight and powerful, with a strong, broad, muscular loin. Her tail is set on correctly low in line with the croup, fairly wide at the base, narrowing to the tip, and reaching to the hock, with good carriage. Her hindquarters are well angulated with broad, well-muscled thighs. She moved freely with the long-reaching stride the Standard calls for, tracking true behind, and showed herself off well throughout. A pleasing bitch who is a good representative of this rare breed. Reserve Best of Breed.
Open D/B (2,1)
1st – Sadey’s Abon Sfora Nordowskiej Knieji At Rubeusbay (Imp Pol) ShCEx. Best of Breed
A lovely, clearly masculine and well-balanced dog, giving an excellent first impression of the breed’s required rectangular, upstanding outline — strikingly handsome, with the strength and stamina the Standard demands, yet never heavy. His head is longish and rectangular, with a moderately broad, slightly arched skull and a well-defined stop. His almond-shaped dark brown eyes carry the calm, tranquil expression so characteristic of the breed. His ears are set fairly high with a soft, straight fall and are correctly raised only slightly above the skull when alert. He has a long, powerful neck with supple, close-fitting skin, merging smoothly and correctly into well-laid-back, muscular shoulders. His upper arm is long and well angulated to the shoulder, giving him a well-constructed front assembly with straight, parallel forelegs. His elbows were slightly loose at times on this occasion, though this did not affect the quality of his movement, which remained sound and true throughout. He has a good depth of chest, correctly approximately half his height at the withers, with ribs of moderate spring and proportionately long back ribs. His back is straight and powerful, supported by a strong, broad, muscular loin, and his topline is level and firm throughout. His croup is of good length with the correct slight incline. His tail is set correctly low in line with the croup, fairly wide at the base, narrowing towards the tip and reaching the hock, raised but carried correctly below the backline on the move, with a pleasing sabre-like carriage. His hindquarters show good angulation with broad, well-muscled thighs, and he is strong and parallel behind. On the move he covered the ground with the breed’s characteristic free-striding, long-reaching action, with good front extension and strong rear drive, tracking true and moving close neither fore nor aft. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.

Basset Fauve De Bretagne
GD/B (2)
1. Horn’s Mochras Mahqueen A highly promising 9-month-old bitch who is beautifully balanced, stocky, and full of quality. Head features a correctly shaped, slightly domed skull with a clean, lean muzzle. Delightful, lively expression. Forequarters show excellent, oblique shoulder placement and a well-matched upper arm. Elbows fit neatly against the body, leading to strong forelegs that display the ideal substance and the slight, permitted inward crook of the breed. Front and rear angulations are perfectly balanced. She possesses a broad, level topline and is well-ribbed back with a deep chest. Stern is well set and carried in a true, gentle sabre fashion on the move. Covered in a correct, very harsh, dense coat. Moved with effortless, sound extension. Pleased to award her Best Puppy (BP) & Reserve Best of Breed (RBOB).
2. Horn’s Mochras Marta, A mature 6-year-old bitch of a slightly heavier, robust type. Pleasing head proportions with a dark, expressive eye and low-set, correctly tapered ears that curl inwards. Deep chest with a commendable spring of rib. Well-set stern. Her topline was not quite as firm today as the class winner, tending to dip slightly on the stack. On the move, she lacked the drive and quick, ground-covering agility of the winner, but she remains a high-quality example of the breed.
O D/B (2,1)
1. Betty & Horn’s Mochras Mahjesty. An ultra-feminine bitch of excellent breed type. Possesses a classic head displaying a slightly domed skull, prominent occiput, and an alert, vivacious expression. Jaws are strong with a perfect, complete scissor bite. Well-laid-back shoulders and a matching upper arm yield a neat, well-fitted front assembly. She has a strong, level back and a correctly placed tail. Balanced front and rear angulation allowed for an active, driving side profile. She is just a little untidy coming and going today, but her excellent type and charming, outgoing temperament could not be denied. Best of Breed (BOB).
