About Town Pet Care is run by Sara Landricombe in the Plymouth and surrounding area, who has spent the majority of her life studying and caring for animals. With over 10 years of animal husbandry experience and a degree in animal science and behaviour, Sara has worked in several different roles from farm work, to zookeeping as well as petshop attendent and keeps an array of animals at home from do

gs and cats to lizards and rabbits. Sara: 'I enjoy nothing more than walking my dogs and caring for my pets and therefore decided that if i already walk up to 4 dogs everyday and care for an array of animals, i might as well continue this over to my professional life and start my own pet care business' - 'My plan is to provide an 'AFFORDABLE' pet care service for people who would otherwise be forced to send pets to kennels or catteries. I understand that keeping animals in their familiair setting is important to most people as well as keeping their animals' welfare as a priority whilst away at work or away on holiday.'

Our customers can be rest assured that their animals are in capable hands and are recieving a high level of service for the most competative rates!.

🔥Monday Motivation🔥 part five in the seven most common puppy issues series is arguably the most important skill you can get started on with your pup.

Recall- once you get to the point where you dog can go off lead reliably then the world is your oyster but that might feel like a bit of a pipe dream at the moment if you have a small puppy.

But don’t despair here is how you get started with smaller pups- for the next couple of weeks I want you to build the bond between yourself and your puppy in close proximity to each other when you are outside.

We are trying to build value in the 6-10ft in front of us to start with anything more than that is a distraction frankly for a small pup so this video tells you about the two recall games I start at home or in a quite spot outside once your pup has gotten used to a 5m Biothane long line.

1- puppy ping pong can be done in the comfort of your back garden to start and your puppy doesn’t even need to have had their vaccinations yet start this game as soon as your pup has settled in.

2) next is the “what’s this” game a precursor to recall it get your pup into the habit of running from side to side in the 6ft in front of us - the game continues once they raise their head and hear the words what’s this on their return to you- it’s a handy cue to get their attention in general if you need them to move away from something also- so go away and practice a couple of these games with your puppy today. I also have a five week recall class starting April 4th at 2pm in hemerdon if you have an adolescent pup that you want to restart recall with and also find my blog posts and links in my bio above or posted on the comments below👆👇

Hey everyone I can’t remember if I posted this recently but thought it’s worth knowing for those (like me) didn’t even know it’s a thing for greyhounds and their crosses.

⭐️Trigger Warning The Link I’m sharing takes you to a website with injuries to their feet depicted⭐️
Maybe time to keep scrolling ➡️➡️➡️
If not here you go.

My 13 year old lurcher has recently been diagnosed with SLO - (an ironic acronym for the fastest little blighters😅)

A genetic disorder known as Symmetrical Lupoid Onchodystrophy
A condition which attacks only their feet thankfully whereby their nails grow very hollow and brittle and in weird shapes before lifting at the cuticle completely.

When having a flare up they can lose a few at a time or all of them which is obviously painful and potentially needs a specific antibiotic to help bring the flare up under control - we initially just thought Scout was being super clumsy but obviously we knew this was excessive after the first three came out.

Scout lost 9 nails through a mild infection under a couple of toes and as a side effect of long-ish brittle nails and needed pain relief and Antibiotics

Thankfully it’s all manageable through diet and by keeping nails shorter than normal - (the interventions were vet prescribed) so we changed his diet to a senior fish based one with salmon oil added. He has a plethora of supplements now
Biotin
Extra vitamin E
Niacinamide

And now 3 months later seems to be coming out the other side with only 3-4 nails left dear of him.
Some dogs need the antibiotics indefinitely if diet cannot manage the symptoms.

It also explains why he sometimes struggles to heal wounds later in life as it is all connected and sighthounds are prone to blood clotting issues as well- I have more resources if anyone needs them and their is a dedicated Facebook group specifically for this in greyhounds as well (it can occur in GSD and rotties too) -

Thought it was important to share 👍

Why do puppies jump up? 🐾
Because it works.
Jumping is a natural greeting behaviour for dogs — they’re trying to get closer to our faces, get attention, or release excitement. And if we talk to them, touch them, or even tell them off… we’ve just rewarded the jumping.
So instead of focusing on stopping the jumping, I prefer to teach the opposite behaviour.
In this reel I’m showing how to:
✔️ Teach an incompatible behaviour like a sit or settle
✔️ Reward four paws on the floor
✔️ Deliver rewards down low so puppies don’t expect everything at waist height
When puppies understand what TO do instead, polite greetings become much easier.
If you’re currently living with a spring-loaded puppy, you’re definitely not alone — it’s one of the most common things owners ask for help with.

🦷 Why is your puppy biting so much?!🐶
If your puppy is biting hands, clothes, ankles, or furniture, you’re probably in the middle of the puppy teething phase.
Puppies actually start developing teeth very early, with baby teeth appearing in the first weeks of life and adult teeth replacing them between about 3–7 months of age.

That means puppy nipping, mouthing, and chewing are completely normal parts of development — but it’s also the perfect time to start puppy bite inhibition training and teach them what’s appropriate to chew.
I’ve written a full in-depth guide on the puppy teething timeline, why puppies nip and bite, and how to train through this stage.
