More enclosures were sent off this week, with two of them being these custom front opening enclosures! 🤩

These two were made specifically to fit a customers shelf and measure at 31x45x30cm

We feel this is a good way of offering a front opening door on a larger terrestrial enclosure, whilst still giving plenty of space for deep substrate sloped towards the back

After some feedback and trialling, we may add these to the website if there’s enough demand for this enclosure orientation!

Can’t believe our first show was over a week ago already!

Fashionably late making a post as usual but wanted to share a few snaps of our tables, and some new additions to our bug room 🪲🦂🕷️

-Pachnoda cordata Fruit Beetles
-Porcellio bolivari Isopods
-Liocheles Australasiae, Pygmy Wood Scorpion
-Halophiloscia cf canariensis Isopods
-Stephanorrhina guttata, Spotted Flower Beetle grubs
-Thrixopelma ockerti, Flame Rump Tarantula (more pics to come of that little one)

Considering it was our first show, things went smoothly and we had a great day trading and talking to other likeminded businesses and hobbyists. There’s a lot of things we were happy with and things we’ll improve for next time (like bringing two table cloths 😅)!

Now back to the mountain of enclosure orders 🏋️‍♀️

The baby mystery millipedes are putting on some good size and starting to gain their colour!

This species has been really enjoyable to keep so far, and tend to be out in the open often which makes a change from keeping pet dirt 🌝

It will be a cause for celebration when I find out what these are as I’m dying to know 😅

Who has been getting involved with the this year? 🦋

The past few weeks have seen a boom in butterfly and moth numbers! Here’s a Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) butterfly we spotted during a count we did last week

The Speckled Wood butterfly is usually found around woodland borders and hedgerows, and they tend to be very territorial! You’ll usually see males having aerial contests, spiralling and chasing each other to defend their patch of sun 🌞

The count ends August 9th, so there’s still plenty of time to take part 👇

How’s everybody coping with this heat? 🥵

It’s been a real battle trying to keep the ‘bug room’ below 30C the past couple weeks, but the effort has resulted in no casualties 🙌

Can’t say the same for our garage though which hit 40C which isn’t ideal with the number of enclosures we’ve got to work through 😵

Jinx, our mature male Guatemalan Tiger Rump (Davus pentaloris) has officially hit 4.5 years old!

Males of this species typically live between 2.5-4 years and most end up passing a year after maturing, so he’s doing very well for his age. You can see how quickly he’s grown in that time.

I expected him to start slowing down shortly after maturing, but he still takes down mealworms and attacks the water dish like it owes him money 💪

Let’s keep everything crossed that he can make it to 5!
