🌿 Hazel dormouse survey update

We’ve recently completed a hazel dormouse footprint tunnel survey as part of our ecological consultancy work.

Installed in early July, the footprint tunnels have been monitored throughout the survey period to collect evidence of hazel dormouse activity within the survey area. The next step is to review the tracking cards for potential dormouse footprints, assess the survey findings, and prepare the ecological report.

Footprint tunnel surveys provide a non-invasive method of surveying for hazel dormice, with the resulting evidence contributing to an assessment of their presence within a site.

Now onto the desk-based work!

We’re proud to announce that K9 Commando and K9 Commando Film & TV have both signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

As veteran-owned businesses, this commitment is particularly close to home for us. We understand the importance of the Armed Forces community and the value of the skills, experience, and dedication that service personnel and veterans bring.

For us, signing the Covenant is about recognizing that commitment and doing our bit to give back. We’re proud to work alongside other veteran-owned businesses and have connections with the military, and we want to continue building on those relationships and supporting the wider Armed Forces community wherever we can.

We were incredibly grateful to be invited to take part in Long Reach Tactical & The Soteria Group’s Tactical Immersion Day the other week.

What a day it was! A fantastic opportunity to work alongside some truly outstanding companies and professionals, all coming together to train, learn, and test themselves in realistic, challenging scenarios.

We were invited to demonstrate the capabilities of working dog teams, showcasing the partnership between handler and dog and the important role they can play when working alongside other disciplines in complex operational environments. For us, it was a great opportunity to demonstrate not only what our dogs can do, but the training, communication, and teamwork that goes into developing a strong and effective dog and handler partnership.

It was a privilege to be part of such a well-organised and immersive training day, and to see different disciplines working together towards the same goal: being better prepared for when it matters.

A huge thank you to:
Long Reach Tactical, LRT Medical Solutions, and The Soteria Group for bringing everyone together and putting on an incredible day.
Traumamed Solutions for the medical equipment and realism they brought to the scenarios.
Evo’s Media for capturing the day so brilliantly. These photographs really showcase the people, teams, and atmosphere of what was an unforgettable day.

Already looking forward to the next one!

K9 Commando is more known for our working dog work, but our services also extend into ecology and conservation.

With Dormouse Week taking place, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to highlight some of the ecology work carried out by the K9 Commando team.

Kylie holds a Natural England CL10a license for surveying hazel dormice (Muscardinus avellanarius) and has several years of experience working with this fascinating, and one of our favorite, species. She’s currently undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) work with a particular focus on dormice and is also in the final stages of a dormouse footprint tunnel survey.

Today, we were proud to be part of Long Reach Tactical, LRT Medical Solutions, and The Soteria Group’s Multiagency Tactical Immersion.

Our role was to showcase the incredible capabilities of working dogs, demonstrating the value, skill, and teamwork these specialist teams bring to complex operational environments.

It was a fantastic opportunity to be involved alongside so many dedicated professionals, and we’re grateful to have been part of such a valuable day.

We can’t wait to share more photos from the day soon!
