🐾 Thinking about getting a ragdoll kitten? 🐾
I’ve been asked this question A LOT lately, What is the difference between a 1-Star vs 5-Star Ragdoll Breeder ? so I wanted to explain🐾
When you’re looking for a new furry family member, the breeder you choose makes all the difference. In the UK, licensed breeders are rated on a 1 to 5 star scale by local councils. But what do those stars actually mean for you and your future kitten ☺️🐾
Aside from the physical care of the kittens, the absolute biggest difference between a 1 star and a 5 star rating comes down to our daily procedures and the mountain of paperwork we maintain ✍️✍️
🛑 The 1-Star Breeder (Minimum Standards)
A 1 star rating means the breeder only meets the absolute minimum legal standards required by law, and they are usually a brand new business.
The Risk: Because they only meet the bare minimum, they haven't proven a track record of going above and beyond for their animals.
It’s often a higher risk choice. You'll want to ask a lot of extra questions about socialisation, health testing, and how the kittens are raised.
🌟 The 5 Star Breeder (Highest Standards)
A 5 star rating is the gold standard. To get this, a breeder must meet all higher standards of welfare and have a proven history of excellent practice.
Our Daily Procedures: Every single day involves structured enrichment plans, recorded socialisation logs (introducing kittens to different sounds and environments), strict weight monitoring tracking, and intensive cleaning protocols that exceed standard requirements. The adult felines also have lots of enrichment and tlc.
Our Paperwork: It is a massive, full time job! To maintain 5 stars, we must produce meticulous records for the council inspectors. This includes written emergency protocols, operational procedures, comprehensive health records, and multi generation histories.
The Care: Kittens are raised in a pristine, enriching environment with a heavy focus on early socialisation and top tier veterinary care.
The Parents: Both the mother and father cats are thoroughly health screened, genetically tested, and exceptionally well cared for.
The Lifetime Support: A 5 star breeder doesn't just hand over a kitten and disappear, they usually offer a lifetime of advice and a contract to take the cat back if you ever can't care for it.
💡 The Golden Rule: Always Ask to See the License!
Don't just take their word for it. A reputable breeder will happily show you their local council license displaying their star rating. Indeed their license should be on displayed prominently in their home.
Choosing a 5 star breeder might cost a bit more upfront, but it gives your kitten the best possible start to a long, healthy, and happy life. ❤️😍🐾
