We would like to introduce one of our newest members off staff, Sophie.

Sophie is our new vet who graduated this year. .
She has already treated some interesting cases and is receiving lots of support from all the staff and clients.
You may recognise her as she did lots of placements with us whilst at university

She thought we so amazing that she just had to work with us 😉

Just to make all clients aware - Bluetongue is in our area - we now have confirmed cases in both sheep and cattle who have been tested under the BTV surveillance programme. This is a notifiable disease which means you must report it.
If you have any questions please ring the practice or go to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/bluetongue for more information.

The signs of bluetongue virus, how you must report it and what happens when you do.

Livestock Veterinary Technician.

What does that actually mean for the practice and, more importantly, for our farming clients?

Becky’s role is to work alongside our vets and farmers, providing practical support with livestock health, welfare and preventative medicine. Her role helps us to provide a more complete service to our clients, with more time dedicated to hands-on work on farm.

As our Veterinary Technician, Becky can assist with things such as:

🔹 Preventative health and disease control
🔹 Vaccination programmes
🔹 Parasite control and monitoring
🔹 Mobility scoring and lameness investigations
🔹 Calf and youngstock health
🔹 Routine livestock procedures
🔹 Collecting samples and monitoring results
🔹 Data collection and analysing herd/flock performance
🔹 Supporting farmers with practical advice and implementation of veterinary recommendations

Having a dedicated Veterinary Technician also means better continuity for our clients. Becky can work closely with the veterinary team and farmers, helping to put health plans into practice and monitor progress over time.

The role is about working as part of the veterinary team – not replacing the vet – but extending the support we can offer on farm. 🩺🐄

We’re excited about the opportunities this brings and look forward to continuing to develop the veterinary technician service within the practice!

We’re delighted that Laura has successfully passed her AMTRA SQP (Suitably Qualified Person) examination! 🥳👏

This is a fantastic achievement and recognises Laura’s knowledge and understanding of veterinary medicines, their responsible use, and the legislation surrounding them.

So, what does this mean for our practice? 🐄🐑

Having another AMTRA-qualified SQP within the practice means we can provide an additional level of knowledge and support when it comes to the responsible supply and use of certain veterinary medicines. Laura is now qualified to advise on and supply authorised medicines within the scope of her qualification, helping our clients make informed decisions about treatments and medicine use.

For a livestock practice, this is particularly valuable as it strengthens our ability to support farmers with practical, responsible and evidence-based medicine advice, while promoting good medicine stewardship, animal health and welfare.

Laura’s qualification is another great addition to the skills within our team and supports our commitment to providing a high-quality service to our farming clients.
