🐴 CRYSTAL’S SHOW UPDATE… aka Concours d’Elégance: survived it 😂👑

So Sunday, Crystal and I headed out for our first ever Concours d’Elégance class…

Now, considering this is the same mare who recently had a little hospital holiday, I was just happy to have her back out doing what she loves ❤️

We arrived and she was already slightly on edge in the car park, which immediately gave me the feeling of…

“Lovely. At some point today you’re going to embarrass me, aren’t you?” 🫣😂

Then we discovered the music was approximately Glastonbury volume and conveniently positioned right by the entrance to the rings. Brilliant. Because obviously what every slightly spicy cob needs is a nightclub next to the show ring 💃🏼🐴🔊

She actually warmed up really nicely, although I could feel she was keeping one eye on everything around her just in case something tried to murder her.

Into the go-round and, to be fair, she was a really good girl ❤️ A little spooky in places, but she settled and did her job.

Then came our individual show…

Crystal spotted the gate.

Crystal liked the gate.

Crystal decided perhaps the gate was where we should remain. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

A brief difference of opinion followed.

Me: “We’re doing our individual show.”
Crystal: “No thank you, I’ve finished.”

We did eventually come to an agreement 😂

I’d already been questioning whether she might be ready to have her back checked, and after Sunday I think that’s definitely going on the to-do list. No excuses for madam, but I want to make sure she’s feeling 100%.

Overall though, after everything she’s been through recently, I was just bloody pleased to have her back out ❤️

Did we win? No.

Did we look fabulous? Obviously. 💅🏼😂

Did Crystal provide a small amount of unnecessary drama? Also obviously.

Would we do Concours again?

…Absolutely 😂👑

Because apparently I enjoy spending hours getting dressed up like I’m off to Downton Abbey just to negotiate with a cob in public.

🐴 CAN WE HAVE AN UPDATE?! 🐴

Apparently I’ve been a bit lacking on the updates lately… rude, but fair 😂

It’s been a busy but quiet few weeks, if that makes any sense whatsoever. Things have been a little quieter horse-wise this year sadly, but we’re starting to get everyone back out and about again 🙌🏼

💎 Crystal makes her comeback this weekend after being so poorly and ending up in hospital earlier this year. She’s off to Bucks and we’re also trying something completely new… Concours d’Elégance 🫣😂

I mentioned this to Dad, hoping for some supportive fatherly words of wisdom.

His response?

“Yeehaw… hold on tight. If she goes, just stay on until she gets tired.”

Brilliant. Thanks Pops. Feeling MUCH more confident now. 🤠💀😂

🐴 Two new girls arrived today and, suspiciously, both have settled in like they’ve lived here for years. No screaming, no fence walking, no attempted escape to France… so I’ll take that as a win!

🏆 Romsey Show is coming up and I’ve now got the impossible decision…

One has to get the golden ticket… surely?! 😂🤞🏼

🌱 We’ve also welcomed a new grass livery, Duchess, who arrived with Business and has already stolen the heart of Jaff, the grandad/papa of the herd. Apparently he’s decided she’s his responsibility now. 🥹😂

And finally, I had a visit today from a lovely lady who will be sending a beautiful mare in on sales livery 👀

She’s a very nice sort, so definitely watch this space… 🤫🐴

So yes… quiet few weeks.

Quiet meaning new horses, show prep, comeback shows, questionable Concours decisions, Dad preparing me for potential death and me still unable to decide which horse to take where.

Business as usual really. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

👀 Two new faces arriving tomorrow… 🐴🐴

Not quite an official introduction, as you may have already spotted these two popping up on the page, but tomorrow they finally arrive! 🥰

✨ Tink — Yearling Filly | approx. 15hh
✨ Womble — 3yr-old Filly | approx. 16–16.1hh | RoR Eligible

Both girls are, or will be, looking for new homes. 🏡❤️
