💫 Patient Highlight💫

Meet the amazing Bella a.k.a Baby!

Baby is one of our most long standing clients and has taught many a hydrotherapist how to swim a Chihuahua. Baby comes once a week for sessions in our hydrotherapy pool for her luxating patellas and she is always such a pleasure to swim.

Keep up the good work Baby! 💪

It's hot hot hot!!!!

What a change of weather! Last week, it was hail stones, this week, we appear to be living in the Serengeti! Here are some top tips to help keep your pet cool over the next few days.

🌞 Avoid midday sun. Use the 8am -8pm rule of walking your dogs. Walking early can beat the heat whilst walking late, allowing time for the sun to set and the temperature to cool down.

🌞 The pavement test - this is super important. Place the back of your hand on the pavement and hold for a few seconds. If it's a bit hot on your hand then it is far to warm for doggy toes.

🌞 Keep water bowls fresh and cool

🌞 Frozen licki matts are fantastic and also provide mental stimulation. Yogurt, cheese and peanut butter are a few ideas you can use to freeze.

🌞 Cooling products - such as cool mats and bandanas are avaliable from many retailers. You can also place a damp towel or t-shirt over your dog to help them stay cool.

These are just a few tips on how you can keep your pet cool during the summer months. We often find that by leaving the dogs slightly damp after their sessions this can also help keep them cool on the drive home.

“He still wants to walk” doesn’t always mean comfortable 🚶‍♂️

Dogs are motivated by routine, companionship, and instinct. Many will continue walking or playing even when uncomfortable.

Signs such as slowing pace, stopping more often, lagging behind, or struggling later in the day can indicate that activity is becoming harder to tolerate.

Assessment helps distinguish enthusiasm from physical capacity, ensuring exercise remains beneficial rather than contributory to discomfort.

If you’re unsure how much activity is appropriate we discuss all details like this in your pets consultation with us.

Post-surgery recovery isn’t just about rest 🏥

After surgery, many dogs appear to recover well initially, but longer-term strength, mobility, and confidence don’t always return without support.

Rehabilitation helps guide recovery in a structured way, supporting healing tissues while rebuilding movement patterns safely. Without assessment, compensations can develop that place strain elsewhere in the body.

If your dog has had surgery in the past and you’re unsure whether recovery is truly complete, an assessment can provide clarity and reassurance.
