🐾 Pesky grass seeds strike again! 🌾👀

Last month, lovely Elwood came to see us with a sore eye. On closer examination, Vet Jen spotted the tip of a grass seed visible on his eye.

After applying a local anaesthetic, the grass seed was carefully and successfully removed. Thankfully, there was no damage to Elwood’s eye, and he went on to make a full recovery. ❤️

Grass seeds may be tiny, but they can cause some very big problems for our pets! They can become lodged in eyes, ears, paws and fur, so it’s always worth checking your pets carefully after they’ve been out exploring, especially during the warmer months.

We’re so pleased Elwood is back to his happy, healthy self! 🐱💙

🐾 Emile’s first vet visit… sort of! 🐾

Little Emile came in to see us for his first official vet visit… although he’s actually no stranger to the practice!

Emile is one of the tiny kittens that our team members Karen & Evie hand reared 🥰 so we first met him when he was absolutely teeny and needed a little extra help growing up. ❤️

Now look at him! 🥹 He’s grown into a gorgeous, confident little boy and came in for a his first vaccinations.

It’s hard to believe this is the same tiny kitten we once held in the palm of our hands! 🐱💕

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Also known as International Dog Day, today is all about celebrating the dogs who make our lives happier, sillier and infinitely better. ❤️

From the wagging tails at the door, muddy walks and favourite toys, to the quiet cuddles and those “please can I have some of your food?” eye. But we would probably all agree we wouldn’t have it any other way. 😄

Whether they’re young or old, big or small, pedigree or proudly a one of a kind, every dog deserves to feel loved, safe and cared for. 🥰

Laparoscopic (keyhole) spay training day!

Are you looking to get your bitch spayed in September? We have a great opportunity for any bi***es over 10kg due to be spayed around 2nd September! We are holding a laparoscopic training day at our Farlington branch to train more of our veterinary surgeons in laparoscopic surgery.

The procedures will be performed by one of our qualified veterinary surgeons, under the guidance of a certified endosurgery specialist veterinary surgeon.

Bi***es must be 3-4 months post season and over 10kg. As a thank you for helping us out, the laparoscopic supplement is waived and it will cost the same as a routine bitch spay.

🐾 All creatures great and small… 🐭🦉🐦

It was a busy weekend for our wildlife patients, with a tiny mouse, starling, pigeon and owl all visiting us for some TLC!

While our main role is caring for pets, when we can, we provide initial care to injured wildlife. Our aim is to transfer them to a wildlife rescue centre or, where appropriate, release them back where they were found.

Here’s a little look at some of our recent visitors, including a video of one of our tiniest patients! 🐭❤️

Welcome Puddle, Crumble & Biscuit! 🐾

This gorgeous trip came in for their second vaccinations and were all incredibly brave. They made sure to enjoy plenty of cuddles and attention whilst they were here.❤️

Today we will be sharing some tips to help prevent separation anxiety and to help if your dog is already experiencing it.

If you have a puppy, now is the best time to prevent separation anxiety, as good socialisation and exposure to a variety of everyday situations will help them to be left alone.

-Start by walking a short distance away where they can still see you, if they stay calm then return and offer lots of praise
-When your puppy is happy with you walking away when they can see you, try briefly leaving the room, return straight away and if they stay calm then again offer lots of praise
-Gradually increase the time they are unable to see you and when they are happy with this you can try the same process but actually leaving the house.
-Keep the time away short and gradually increase it at a speed your puppy is happy with
-Always stay calm when leaving and returning to reinforce to your puppy that this is nothing to get anxious about
-When you return always offer your puppy lots of praise and reward
-Never punish your puppy or leave them to cry it out as this only increases their stress and the likelihood of developing separation anxiety.

If your dog is already experiencing separation anxiety then you may need to seek help from a professional behaviourist. In the meantime though, there are various things you can try to help you dog:

-Make sure your dog has a safe, comfortable space to relax in. You could add clothing that has your smell on
-Make sure your dog has had enough exercise before you go out so that they are physically stimulated and tired
-If it is safe to do so, leave your dog things that will provide them with mental stimulation e.g. enrichment feeders, toys and chews
-Make sure they have been to the toilet
-Use a plug in calming pet diffuser
-Prepare in advance so that when you leave you are not in a rush
-If you are going to be out longer then your dog will cope with then arrange for a relative, friend or dog sitter to pop in
