Just a Bear appreciation post!
This last year has taught me not to take our dogs for granted. We just don't know when our last day with them may be.
I try to give Bear the best life. Some days, he spends +5 hours out with me, walking with other dogs.
Doing nothing with them can be just as valuable as doing something though. Today, whilst out on our walk, we just stopped and sat down in the sunshine. Just to chill together. We sat for 30 minutes, just together.
I wish I had more of these moments with the boys I've lost.
My advice to you is, try to make time just to enjoy them being here. Take video. And don't have any regrets. There are no redos with the time we have together. 🐾

Meet Luther the Doberman 😍
His owners reached out to me, via a recommendation, regarding dog reactivity behaviours.
During the consult, he was very nervous of me, and made his presence known! It turns out that he has some other undesirable behaviours, stemming from insecurity.
By the end of the consult, he was accepting of me being there, willing to take treats from me, resting his chin on my leg, and we were able to teach him "Touch" to help with future training techniques.
We're a few sessions in now. His behaviour has been spot on for me, and much improved for his owners.
Zero reactivity with me so far around dogs, and importantly, he's so comfortable around me now. I'm able to pet him, and he leans up against me for fuss and support. Superstar ⭐️

Update on Harvey. He is my 12 year old reactive boy, who I've been helping.
For the last month or so, Harvey has been walking with my Bear, building confidence around other dogs.
Today was a big day, as I introduced him to Chewie for the first time. I know Chewie VERY well, so I know he was the right boy for this step. Harvey did amazing!

With the right mentors, reactivity doesn't have to be a forever thing. Young, old, rescues, small or large breed, they can all be helped. This isn't to say that Harvey is "fixed" of all reactivity. But he has certainly come a long way in the right direction.

Most importantly... not a prong collar or e-collar in sight... ever 🚫

Echo: Walk 3.
This will likely be the last Echo video I post for a while. She has made fabulous progress. Day 1, Dog 1, she was incredibly reactive, jumping around on lead like a bucking bronco, unable to switch off, and needing to be physically moved on.
Now, she is still a little shouty, but she can be distracted and easily switches back to me.
She's a super sweet girl, loves to play and very affectionate. She is just very nervous and unsure how to react in society.
Watching her learn to trust me, and watching her relax around otherwise triggering scenarios, has been a blessing.
Hopefully, one day soon, I will post a video of her walking with my Bear. That's my goal. πŸ’ž

Day 2 of Echo.
A fun walk/play session. Laying foundations of rules of play and obedience.
She was superb on the walk. We saw multiple triggers, to which I provided her with plenty of space. High praise for calm behaviour.
She did amazing today πŸ‘ ❀️

Struggling to sleep? Perhaps listen to me ramble on for 9 minutes about Echo, and her first day out with me.

Echo is a 2 year old German Shepherd. She is HIGHLY reactive. I was contacted for training advice, but this girl is struggling, so a more hands on approach is needed.
She is going to be a work in progress, so stick around and see how she gets on! 🀞

Meet Harvey. I started working with him around 4 weeks ago. He is 12 years old.
His owner wanted some help with some walks, and explained how reactive he is to dogs. He was attacked many years ago, and has been reactive ever since. He has all the yellow leads and gear to warn others not to approach him.

This video was taken for the owner, using my own boy, Bear, as a positive role model.
After years of reactivity, Harvey is learning to trust again. At 12 years old! The job isn't complete yet, it is incredible progress though.
He needed a clean slate. A confident handler, and a confident role model. He's doing awesome πŸ‘Œ

With a heavy heart, I need to announce that our beloved Ted passed away yesterday.
I took him out in the afternoon, but he struggled to walk, so I took him straight home, thinking he may have a sore leg or something. We sat on the sofa together and he was panting unusually hard. I rang Amy, who wasn't home at the time. We started looking for emergency vets, to see where we could take him. During this time, he lost all colour in his gums and tongue, so we knew he was in heart failure. It was evident we would lose him imminently.
I had a choice, to try and get him in the car and to a vets, and risk losing him on the journey, or to sit with him and say a peaceful goodbye.
I'm glad I chose the latter. We laid together, we had a cuddle, and I was able to tell him I love him and kiss him goodbye. He stopped breathing a short time later.
Both Ted's and Dexter's sudden deaths suggest Stage 4 degenerative heart failure, so nothing could be done to save them at that point.
Ted was my best friend. I've lost a piece of my heart that I won't ever get back. He is irreplaceable.
I know many of you will leave heartfelt condolences. I can't cope at the moment to reply to people. However, they will have been seen and appreciated.β€” with Amy Lawrence.
