We spend so much time working around a cat's face, but how many of us truly understand what whiskers do?
Whiskers (or vibrissae) are not just thicker hairs. They are ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฌ deeply connected to a large follicle packed with ๐ง๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ. The facial whiskers aren't the only sensory hairs a cat has. Cats also have specialized sensory hairs above the ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฌ, on ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง, on the ๐๐๐๐ค๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ญ ๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ฌ (carpal whiskers), and ๐ฌ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ parts of the coat.
