Tay Valley Vets is an established, well equipped small animal RCVS accredited practice. Our practice is in beautiful Perthshire, which has been voted the 5th best place to live in the UK.
You will be joining a friendly, dedicated team of vets, nurses and receptionists, who are all committed to providing an excellent standard of care to all patients. As a team we make every effort to create and maintain a positive working environment.

Job overview:
We are seeking an Animal Care Assistant to join our team and contribute to providing a high standard of care to our patients for maternity cover starting in August 2026. As a valued member of our team you will be assisting the clinical teams in maintaining a clean clinical environment and will receive training in helping to deliver a comfortable and stress-free inpatient environment. You will also be involved in restraining and handling patients and laboratory work.

Duties:
Assist the nursing team with inpatient care by addressing husbandry needs.
Maintaining high standards of clinical cleanliness in all areas of the practice.
Restrain patients for a variety of procedures.
Setting up theatre for emergency procedures and routine surgeries.
Perform laboratory work at our in house lab area.

Previous experience in this role is desired but not essential, as on the job training can be given.
This position will cover 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, with 1 in 4 weekends covering practice opening times.

We have had a ginger male cat handed in to us who has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈 He was wearing a blue mixed colour collar with a wee bell and was found just outside Aberuthven on Auchterarder Road. If you think this is your cat please call the practice on 01738 621415

Today we had one of our own staff pets have a castration and hernia repair 🩺

This is Merry, he was very brave for his pre-med injection this morning and had a lovely anaesthetic. 🐾

Merry recovered nicely but was not too impressed to get a buster collar on once he tried to start licking his wounds! 🤭

Wee Merry is recovering nicely at home now with his RVN mum ❤️

It's the last day of Veterinary Nursing Awarness Month and to round it off we have the brilliant Kirsten 💞

Kirsten started working at Tay Valley in 2007 and has been a registered Veterinary Nurse since 2012 🩺🐾

Kirsten enjoys the variety each day at work can bring, never knowing what awaits you when you walk through the door 🐇🦜🦎
She also has a keen interest in radiography and dentistry 🦷

When not at work Kirsten enjoys spending time with her family, going to the gym 🏋🏼‍♀️ and baking 🧁 (and hopefully sharing her yummy bakes with her colleagues!!) 🤭

In the final few days of Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month, we would like to introduce Craig ✨️

Craig has been qualified as an RVN for 9 years. Craig has always loved animals, knowing he wanted a career where he could help care for and support them 🐾🩺

Craig has a huge dedication in raising awareness in mental wellbeing within the Veterinary industry. With Craig's background in a MSc in Psychology, this is something Craig is very passionate about and makes sure the staff here at Tay Valley are well looked after. Along with being a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse, Craig is working towards another MSc in Health Psychology.

Craig likes to run 🏃‍♂️ read 📚 hike 🥾⛰️ and spent quality time with his family 💕 including visiting home to his family cat, Ralph 🐱

It's the last few days of Veterinary Nursing Awarness Month and we still have a few nurses to celebrate 🥳 Today we have Lynsey 🥰

Lynsey has been a qualified Veterinary Nurse for 3 years now and joined the veterinary industry so she can advocate for all animals when they need it the most 💞 🐾

Lynsey has a special interest in emergency and critical care and is planning on doing a certificate in it soon. 🚑 This includes rapid triage of patients, history taking, administering first aid treatment, critical monitoring and procedure preparation 🩺

At home Lynsey has goofy Goose the whippet, two working collies called Buster and Skye and a horse called Jess 🐎 🐶
In her spare time she enjoys horse riding, running and baking 🏃🏼‍♀️🍰
