September SKILLS 👣🐾

Last night was all about indications… and, as usual, somehow involved a fair amount of laughing, innuendo and cake. 😂🍰

We were working in a busy parkland area, which gave us plenty of interesting hiding spots — although having lots of dog walkers around added an extra challenge at times!

Our newer recruit wasn’t worrying about indications just yet, so he had some confidence-building hunting trails instead. And he absolutely WHIZZED along on his last one. ❤️

The other dogs all have a sit indication, so we were busy proofing those indications by mixing up where the trail layers were hiding. Standing up? Easy. Lying down? 🤔 Sometimes the dogs weren’t quite so sure what they were supposed to do!

It was great to see them working things out and learning that the person doesn’t always look exactly how they expected them to. 👌🏼

Another great SKILLS evening. 👌🏼
Can’t wait to do it all again! 🐾

Another fabulous day learning from the lovely Corinne. A real mix of dogs and handlers working on a range of behaviours. I always find it massively useful to watch other handlers work their dogs and and the way Corinne breaks down the behaviour and tweaks handler mechanics as well as being critiqued and given ideas for working my own girl🤓
I’m already looking forward to the next one in November 🤩

👣🐾 Today was all about tracking for me! 🐾👣

The sun came out and I had 9 dogs working on their tracking skills, all in slightly different ways.

We had some brilliant moments throughout the day…

🌟 Pepper joined me for his very first session and absolutely nailed his Preliminary Award — a real natural sniffer! 👌🏼

🔄 Ginny worked on turns, while Cody & Ava worked on steadiness — and both also passed their Preliminary Awards! 🏆

🧡Meg and Treacle were both working on corners, while we changed tactics with Tessy… and WOW, what a difference! She became so much more steady and methodical. A proper breakthrough moment 👌🏼

🤩 Hugo worked incredibly hard, with the most rapid sniff rate! There were some real “WOW” moments when he located tiny articles that his mum couldn’t even see 😂

And last but definitely not least… Frankie passed his Gold Award — 210m, 40 minutes aged, with 4 legs. 🏆His mum was starting to doubt him towards the end, but that little inner voice saying “trust your dog” kicked in… and Frankie did exactly what he needed to do. 😉

I love working with different breeds, personalities and ways of working. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach — I love tweaking and adapting techniques to suit the individual dog and finding what makes sense to them. 🐾❤️ Love my job 🥰

🐾🌅 Friday night mantrailing at the Maize Maze! 🌽🐕

Back in the maze for another evening of sniffing, searching and plenty of twists and turns!

We were treated to a fantastic sunset over the fields tonight — definitely one of the perks of mantrailing and being outdoors. 🌅😍

And tonight we had some extra distractions thrown into the mix… a group of Girl Guides were exploring the maze too! 👧🏼👧🏽👧🏻 Plenty of voices, movement and unexpected activity for our teams to work around, making the trails even more interesting.

The dogs had to really concentrate, work out the scent picture and make their own decisions through the maze — while handlers had to trust their dogs and resist the temptation to help! 😉

🌽 Twists
🐶 Tails wagging
👃 Noses working overtime
🌅 And a pretty epic sunset to finish the week!

Brilliant Friday night with a fantastic group of dogs and handlers. ❤️

🐾🌊 Hampton Ferry for our mantrailing session this morning! 🌊🐾

Honestly, it was rather lovely. Blue skies, sunshine, hardly any wind, a hand ferry and lots of swans. Not a bad place to spend a Friday morning! ☀️🦢

And then we added six dogs and gave them some work to do. 😂🐶👃

Three of the dogs had their first go at trailing onto and off of the hand ferry — always fun watching them figure out something completely new!

We also had some split trails, where the handlers didn’t know who was the trail layer and who was the decoy. So they had to trust their dogs, make the call and tell me whether they thought they’d got the correct person. 👀

And obviously, no LK9 morning is complete without a little café break… bacon sarnies and drinks all round! 🥓☕

Some really lovely work from all dogs in an environment full of pee-mail, with plenty of challenges, lots of laughs and a few new experiences thrown in.

Pretty much a perfect morning really. ❤️
