Clip your dog onto a lead near cliffs
**COMMUNITY POST**
We are dog lovers, that is stating the obvious, and we know that our local community is full of dog lovers too.
With that fact in mind, we are saddened to hear that yet more dogs have lost their lives this week due to falling off the locally unfenced cliff edges. We have felt such sadness for the poor owners concerned that as a team we have felt compelled to do 'something' to try to get the message out there.
It doesn't matter how well trained your dog is, it doesn't matter if your dog is used to walking on clifftops and never had a problem...... it only takes a second and your dog could be gone.
As locals we see this a lot with holiday makers who are simply not aware of the risks but we also see this happening with local dog walkers too.
Yes, we would like more signage but we all know that signs get ignored but this is something that we would hope to talk to the council about whilst also taking into account the natural beauty of the area.
At this stage we simply can't advocate random posters going up everywhere, but we can ask that those locally involved in any tourist activity such as holiday parks, hotels, B&B's, restaurants etc do try to help our visitors and put these posters up. It's not much but if it helps to save one dog then it will be worth it.
Please share and please feel free to print off if appropriate for your local business needs.
With this in mind, we cannot imagine the devastation that owners feel that have lost a dog in this manner and ask that this post remains positive about trying to make a difference.
