👂🐶 Have you checked your dog's ears recently?

Healthy ears are an important part of your dog's overall wellbeing, yet they're often overlooked.

💙 Regular ear checks can help:
✔️ Spot redness, swelling or irritation early
✔️ Prevent wax and debris from building up
✔️ Detect unpleasant odours that may indicate an infection
✔️ Keep your dog comfortable and reduce the risk of painful ear problems
🚨 Watch out for these signs:
🐾 Frequent head shaking
🐾 Scratching at the ears
🐾 A bad smell
🐾 Redness or discharge

💡 Top Tip:
Check your dog's ears regularly, but only use ear cleaners recommended by your vet or groomer. Never insert cotton buds or other objects into your dog's ear canal.

🐾 At Rodbaston Dog Grooming Academy, every dog receives a visual ear health check during their groom. We gently and carefully clean the outer ear using an appropriate ear cleaner to help remove dirt and wax build-up. If we notice anything unusual, we'll always recommend that you seek advice from your veterinary practice.

❤️ Healthy ears. Happy dogs.

💬 Do you include ear checks as part of your dog's home care routine? Tell us in the comments! 👇

🐾 Important Information for our Clients 🐾

We have recently seen an increase in dogs displaying behavioural challenges during their grooming appointments. While we understand that some changes cannot always be predicted, it is vital that owners inform us of any health or behavioural concerns before their appointment.

As our grooming salon is a learning environment, students are perfecting their handling and grooming techniques and we rely on accurate information to provide safe and appropriate care.

Please let us know if your dog has:
✅ Anxiety, nervousness, or fear-related behaviours
✅ Reactivity towards people or other dogs
✅ A history of biting, snapping, or handling sensitivities
✅ Any medical conditions, injuries, or pain issues
✅ Started new medication or undergone recent treatment
✅ Mobility issues or age-related concerns
✅ Had a difficult grooming or veterinary experience
✅ Any recent changes in behaviour or temperament

Providing this information does not automatically mean we cannot groom your dogs. However, it allows us to assess your dog's needs and make appropriate adjustments where possible.

Please be aware that, in some cases, if a dog's behaviour presents a safety concern for the dog, students, or staff, we may be unable to proceed with the appointment and may need to refuse service.

Thank you for your honesty, understanding, and cooperation. By working together, we can ensure a safe and positive grooming experience for everyone. ❤️🐶✂️

🩺🐶 When was your dog's last vet check?

Regular veterinary check-ups aren't just for when your dog is unwell—they're one of the best ways to keep them healthy.

💙 Routine health checks can help:
✔️ Detect health problems early
✔️ Keep vaccinations up to date
✔️ Monitor weight and overall condition
✔️ Check teeth, ears, eyes and heart health
✔️ Provide advice on diet, parasite control and preventative care

🐾 At Rodbaston Dog Grooming Academy, we're often one of the first people to notice changes such as lumps, bumps, skin issues or ear concerns during the grooming process. While groomers can't diagnose medical conditions, we'll always recommend a visit to your vet if we spot anything unusual.

❤️ Working together, groomers and vets help keep your dog happy, healthy and thriving.

💬 Has your groomer ever spotted something that needed checking by your vet?

🪮 Brushing your dog is about more than keeping them looking good! 🐶

Did you know that just a few minutes of brushing can help prevent painful matting and keep your dog's skin and coat healthy?

✨ Regular brushing helps to:
✔️ Prevent mats and tangles
✔️ Remove loose hair and dirt
✔️ Keep the coat healthy and comfortable
✔️ Spot lumps, bumps or skin changes early

💡 Top Tip:
Don't just brush the top of the coat—brush all the way through to the skin. Hidden tangles can quickly turn into painful mats.

🎓 At Rodbaston Dog Grooming Academy...
Every dog is thoroughly brushed and coat-checked before grooming. Our students are taught the correct brushing techniques and tools for different coat types, ensuring every dog receives the highest standard of care with welfare at the heart of every groom.

❤️ Healthy coat. Happy dog.
