I'm having a day off today - well sort of!!

I'll be at this amazing dog show hosted by K9-SAR

Aren't sure what they do - come along and find out.

They're a fabulous group of people who volunteer and give up their time to find our missing pets

They even have a water SAR section.

Another newbie this week welcome to Cooper.

He's here to make walks a bit more enjoyable at first and then we can work on his recall.

Building solid foundations is the most important part of training any dog

I think he's rocking his walking, and has been given some homework to work on until next time

An update on Brian and how his training is going...

This week we left the house and moved outside to a local park.

It was clear very quickly that he becomes overwhelmed and is unable to make the best decisions.

Enter PACE CHANGES now these aren't for everyone, some dogs really don't like them.

Brian LOVED them and they really helped calm him down

CRATES

How do you view them?
A safe space 🛖or a prison🔒?

I've had some interesting questions and comments recently regarding crates so I thought I'd pop on how I use ours

Bracken uses hers as her 'bedroom' and I love this, she happily takes herself there every night around 9:30. I don't ask she just gets up off the sofa and goes to lay down in it.

I've trained this, I always wanted her to view her crate as her safe space.

It's her place to go to avoid being disturbed. As humans we have a choice to leave the house or room or even lock a door behind us - dogs don't but they can communicate they need space by putting themselves in a crate or on their bed.

💥I would never use a crate for punishment.
💥I would never just put a dog in it shut the door and leave them to cry and get wound up.
💥I would never drag a dog out of their crate when I feel they've had enough rest (dogs need more sleep and rest than most people allow)

💚I would creat a nice safe space
💚I would build up time
💚I would reward a dog taking them self to the crate
💚I would make it as comfortable as each dog needs
