Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that has messaged to ask about Aurora since her operation yesterday, she is home and on 10 days box rest (not easy for a collie). Thank you also for everyone's understanding and patience with all the changes this week, you are all amazing. Thank you 💙💙💙

One for all those horsey people out there...

Just a wee heads up to our equine clients about influenza. There are currently a number of outbreaks on yards across the UK, including in the Scottish Borders and Lanarkshire.

Equine flu is a highly contagious viral infection which causes a fever, cough and nasal discharge. Symptoms can last 2-3 weeks and horses can be quite unwell, with a cough sometimes lingering for several months.

Please ensure that your horse's flu vaccs are up to date. After the initial course, boosters are usually required at 12 monthly intervals. For horses which are out and about competing and mixing with others, a 6 monthly booster might be considered to maintain maximum levels of protection. Flu symptoms are dramatically reduced in vaccinated horses which encounter the virus.

NB Please take care with timing as horses cannot compete within 7 days of vaccination.

Other things you can do:
Isolate new horses when moving to a new yard (for 3 weeks)
Keep your horse away from others at shows
Wash clothing and disinfect equipment if you travel between yards eg coaching or grooming
Isolate your horse and call us promptly if you notice a nasal discharge, a cough, or if they appear unwell with a temperature

I recently had the absolute pleasure of a weeks worth of Day Care for the big man Arthur while his wee clan where away on a well deserved holiday. Arthur had an amazing time staying with Granny but Arthur is one of our strongest and energetic clan members so he came along to us during the day to spend time with all his pals. Everyone had tail wagging Adventures and enjoyed having Arthur along to 💙💙💙
