I’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has asked about how we are doing and how our remaining 2 ponies and horse are doing after losing two of our beautiful home bred ponies.

I’ve had animals all my life and have had to cope with the loss of ponies, horses and dogs over the years but this by far has been the most traumatic losses by far and the constant worry and anxiety about our remaining 3.

I know all of our wonderful customers have had to experience similar, it’s so difficult when you become an animal parent to know at some point you have to deal with this. The dream is always to have them live into old age and go peacefully on their terms, that in itself is heartbreaking, to have our eldest mare make it to 37 years of age to then lose the baby of the family 2 weeks ago only at the age of 5 breaks me.

So thank you for your kindness. I am always here for anyone who is struggling with their own loss of an animal, part of the family. It can be a very lonely place without the support so please reach out if you’re struggling. There are also charities that have pet/horse loss bereavement services which are invaluable.

The Blue Cross and the BHS friends to the end provide support so please reach out and don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Caroline, Louie, Cherry and Hope ❤️

Finally got the grass cut, between the stinking wet weather and then losing two ponies and nursing the remaining 3 it’s got longer than I wanted.

Unfortunately it didn’t get finished until 11pm last night so no energy left to rake it up so please use the artificial grass at the entrance gates to remove any grass or wear wellies to change out of.

It’s been a hellish 2 1/2 weeks for us so we are only now starting to get back into the swing of things. Typical now the weather is going to be wet but hopefully some of the previously planned maintenance can get done soon.

Remember that the Penicuik hunter and lass happens tomorrow so roads will be closed at times but alternative routes given if you’re coming from Penicuik

Unfortunately the plans for our holiday from the the Dick Vet hospitals this week for us have t gone to plan. We were meant to sort out the dog digging holes etc in the parks.

We lost our Welsh C 17 yo mare Hollie a week past Thursday to acute equine grass sickness and less than a week later my little coloured cob mare Faith was devastatingly also PTS due to sub acute GS.

The fields are empty as nursing the remaining 3, Louie, Cherry and Faith’s mummy Hope in the stables and today they had to cope with a neighbouring barbecue party noice😩 they coped as best they could after over a week of grief and loss. They’re not used with noice.

The parks will have repairs done soon, can I please ask that don’t let your dogs dig up holes anywhere. We patch up lots anyway but wanted this week past to sort out these damages.

Going forwards we want to sort out access to the parks. Your support would mean the world to the dog parks. The current access we own and have had proven tricky at times, only for my brain as a before and now beautiful route, I want you all to experience the SYP how I have always loved it, it’s a lovely access track but not as I’ve known it since the adjacent land was sold. I want a rural quiet access to us.

So plans are to have an additional access from the Howgate to Leadburn Road.

Current access stilll remains the same as heritable and it’s lovely approaching from the old railwayline. We’ve planted so many trees along there as a welcome,

The plan is for an additional access from top road. If Midlothian council allow retrospective next door for whatever then due to this they can surely allow a new access to allow the dog parks to keep going. It would be planned to have an additional dog park from this access so we can be further away from any potential noice down the hill from us.

Your support when I apply would mean the world to us as want here to be even more amazing. The dog parks started because of our dogs being reactive and me wanting peace with my dogs off lead☺️🫶🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Lastly and apologies so long, it’s been a long 1/2 weeks😭 I’m looking for sharers for my 3 remaining equines. Louie is a TB gelding around 16hh, lovely boy but sharp under saddle and out of work.

Cherry is a Welsh C and opinionated 😬🤣

Hope was broken in badly when we bought her. Only about 13hh. Found out she was in foal to Faith💔very shy and still cautious about humans but trusts us.

They’re not easy or quiet and need very experienced potential sharers but all can be brought back under saddle, 2 of them were ridden before my ME flared up again 3 years ago . They are all natural horsemanship trained and need quiet experienced humans who are quiet and kind.

Anyone who’s messaged before and are interested please also get back in touch, I’m rubbish with social media and miss messages.

Just a wee reminder that we are going to be working on the Agility park next week and at times we may have to ask you to use the after dark park with puppy paddock. It’s proving to be difficult to work on this park before and after closing times apart from the regular checks and maintenance etc.

The picnic bench area has had a right good bit of digging at it and we are planning to revamp this area and hopefully prevent this happening going forwards (we do ask that you always keep an eye on your dog for digging/pooping/chewing equipment 😱😬🙏) there’s been a lot of equipment we’ve had to remove due to being chewed 😩

We unfortunately had a tragedy late yesterday evening where we sadly had to have one of our homebred mares pts so we are really feeling it atm so please bare with us/me if I’m a little bit less cheery than usual. We usually like to keep out the way anyway as I know the park is used by a number of reactive dogs so we want to give you as peaceful and undisturbed visit as possible. We have a few of ours that are both dog and human reactive so really understand the need for space and us out of view if we can be👌

She was born here 17 years ago and was a mare you probably noticed for her shinanigans at times! As we have a number of people asking about the ponies/horse when visiting here I didn’t want anyone panicking that she’d escaped etc. or been sold! it’s so unbelievably difficult to lose an animal as they are not just pets they are family. She had 17 years of an amazing healthy life here at the SYP and we didn’t want her to suffer after falling ill so suddenly, as there was no hope medically for her I had to make that awful heart wrenching decision that makes you sick to the stomach.

But id not swap being an animal mum for anything despite the grief and heartbreak it ultimately brings. I know all of you visiting here know this only to well💔

Rest in peace my beautiful Hollie.

I hope you can be understanding of the work we have to get on with next week and are happy to use the other park, I think I’ll cry if not as ultimately trying our best to keep the place how I would want to visit it and not my usual self atm.

Thank you, Caroline, John and Team SYP

There’s no place like home and no place like the Stackyard Park.

35 years ago I first blessed here on the back of a pony, it was a big open field, the Stackyard Park for Mosshouses Farm, we were allowed to ride the ponies and horses round here outwith hay making season.

Later it was sold by Edinburgh council to various people and a few years later we purchased here at beyond triple the selling price as we are daft and didn’t know about how to bid in or on the original sale🤦‍♀️ but it was a dream place and a dream come true and pinch myself each day to have here. Since we’ve bought here we’ve planted around 3000 trees and hedgerow, 600+ this spring! It’s now a place full of birds and the swallows come here each spring and nest in the barn and shelters❤️

It then became Eskvalley Stud where we bred a few Welsh cobs and Welsh ponies and I competed around Scotland on my own and others ponies/horses.

The dog park then started, after a few horse splat accidents that caused me severe damage and then an ME diagnosis, firstly as a park for my own dogs due to this condition.

Now we share our place that we love with other dog lovers and it’s such a magical place to share. This evening was one of those magical times. I’m so glad it’s a place that brings joy to dogs and their parents (not owners as we don’t own we have them as our family 🥰❤️🥰🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾)

Thank you for supporting a business created out of awful circumstances that became the best thing ever🫶🫶🫶

Penicuik Road race comes along Milkhall Road/Venturefair Road tomorrow. It’s never caused us an issue but please be aware that there will be runners on the road towards the dog parks at times.

It’s such a great road race and as a former 5k runner for the Edinburgh woollen mill club back in the day if you have runners passing you give them a woop 🙌 it’s a tough course 😱if you can, our daft funny reactive labradestroyers just want to encourage them a little bit too much 😱😬🤣🤦‍♀️

I have a funeral today so the regular phone number may be switched to answer machine.

Please refer to your booking email for all the details of your booking time, the date you’re booked for etc

Alternative number to call 07891 059433

Please remember to not arrive early in to the car park. The cctv has picked up a few early arrivals as have my eyes. We need to respect the current booking in the park as they may well be reactive dogs using the park or just people and dogs enjoying their booking time, its sole hire outwith the times advertised with park 2 being a private hire at times (mid morning and lunchtime)

Thank you, Caroline

Scheduled park maintenance for the week commencing 18th May.

The Agility Park has been well loved and loved by diggy dogs. We will be working on the park that week so we can get a proper go at the grounds and equipment etc.

During this time you may be asked to use the other park. We have new jumps and equipment to upgrade.

To help us please can I ask not to let your dogs dig in the park, park 2 has a designated dig area, we will try and have an area in the agility park for this too. Digging around equipment and random places makes for a lot of work! As does chewing of jumps equipment and the water tanks taps 😫please keep an eye on your dogs while using the parks to prevent damage🙏

View yesterday from the horses top field down over the parks👌❤️

We will be opening earlier this Friday from 1pm and open all day on Monday 6th April 🐣 booking calendar is now amended for these dates to take bookings 🐣

Just a polite reminder to not arrive early or leave late. We will use the parks for our own dogs as and when the diary may have a free spot. Leaving late = disaster all round as we do have reactive dogs. It is also unfair on all the other customers who abide by the rules and don’t decide to go into a booking time that’s not been paid for😱 this is a small business trying to keep afloat. If you do decide while using the park that you’d like to add on more time to extend the booking please go to the booking website and if there is availability please book. It also means not only are you paying for the time you are using but that I don’t appear with the Labradestroyers to let them use the park!!!

Thank you
