See if you can spot the bladder stones in this x-ray 🔍

The X-ray revealed several large stones inside the bladder. But what we found during surgery was even more surprising...

In total, FOURTEEN bladder stones were removed, which had resulted in a very uncomfortable urinary blockage.

The good news? The surgery went well and all 14 stones were successfully removed during surgery.

The stones have now been sent to a specialist laboratory in Minnesota, USA, for further analysis. This will help us understand what they are made of and whether changes to the diet could help reduce the risk of them forming again

See if you can spot the bladder stones in this X-ray 🔍
hint: bones and other mineral dense objects show up lighter on an X-ray

From the X-rays, we knew there were several large bladder stones causing irritation and discomfort. What we didn’t realise was just how many smaller stones were hiding behind them!

All 14 stones were successfully removed during a cystotomy, a surgical procedure where the bladder is carefully opened and the stones are taken out.

🔬 The stones will now be sent to a specialist laboratory in Minnesota, USA for analysis. Finding out exactly what they are made of can help us plan treatment or change the diet to reduce the risk of them forming again in the future.

Did you know that dental X-rays are becoming standard practice in veterinary medicine but not all vet practices have the right equipment?

Have a look at some of the X-rays we’ve taken in our clinic over the past few weeks. 🦷

A lot of dental disease can’t be seen by just looking at the teeth. Dental X-rays allow our vets to examine the roots and other areas below the gumline. This means we can identify hidden dental disease, decide which teeth need treatment and in some cases, avoid extracting teeth unnecessarily.

Taking X-rays can also help us plan extractions more accurately, making procedures more efficient and reduce the amount of time your pet is under anaesthetic.

Meridian Vets is currently offering dental X-rays free of charge until 2027 while our veterinary team continues to develop their skills and efficiency using our dental X-ray equipment

Patient of the Week🐈

🐾 A big mention for the gorgeous Humphrey, who completed his 25-week chemotherapy journey this week! 🐾

Over the past few months Humphrey has been an absolute superstar. He has been so patient and gentle each visit, putting up with regular blood tests and his IV treatments.

Here he is enjoying a well-deserved lunch alongside his toy ferret after receiving his final chemotherapy treatment. We're so proud of this handsome chap ⭐

Patient of the Week 🐶

Mabel came in for a dental procedure this week and enjoyed plenty of TLC from our nursing team before her anaesthetic ❤️

During the procedure the vet performed a full de-scale and clean before taking out a few troublesome teeth at the back of her mouth. It is only after de-scaling that we can assess the mouth fully and determine which teeth need to be extracted.

Mabel recovered beautifully from her anaesthetic all tucked up in one of our kennels under the watchful eye of one of our nurses. She went home with a healthier mouth and a lovely set of pearly whites! 🦷✨

Well done, Mabel! 💕
