Since a yearling, our homebred (now 12 years) has loved next door's cattle.

Although over the years they have come and gone - he always has a favourite.

Here he is this morning waiting for his favourite 🐮 to come back out.

First photo - look on the upper right. He's standing beside the boundary fence.

This morning a post was put on Facebook about a dog worrying a local farmer's sheep.

This was a few fields away from us but we can see most of the field from ours.
(Thank you to that person for the post)

By the time we had read the post, the dog was no longer chasing the sheep and nowhere to be seen.

Most would think no more of it.

Yet, a while later, a pregnant Ewe turned up in my fields. Terrified and doing her best to keep running.

She was that scared, she had left her flock, ran through sheep fencing, a neighbour's cattle fencing with barbed wire and through/over many hedges.

She was panicked and lost.

With the help from my son, we were both able to herd her into one of our stables. No easy feat!

Her farmer was called and she was collected as soon as they could.

So, that dog incident caused not only a terrified flock of pregnant ewes but the blind panic of one, the extra stress for an extremely busy farmer, our own time in getting her to safety, fields churned up by our horses due to 'stranger danger' (yes, they knew it wasn't their sheep)
Extra time for the farmer to take the Ewe home and check her over.....the list goes on.

I hope the Ewe keeps her pregnancy to full term and her lambs arrive unharmed. Stress is a killer.

One simple thing could have prevented this....

A dog lead.

Short video of two of our residents loving life.
Look at little Tinker go! ❤

They were popped into our pen after a farrier visit, this enables us to tidy up the yard without them needing to be tied up for an extended time.

It went on for some time with bucking & farting but my phone memory was too full of pony photos to capture much more 😬
