A huge shout out to Adam from Micro Exotics at Par Moor road for donating a colony of dubai roaches to start me off on breeding my own. He also does a great range of feeder insects for your lizard friends that’s a lot cheaper than the subscription services I used to use x
Thanks heaps 🤗🥰🦎🦎

3 reasons your isopods aren’t breeding (and why patience is often the answer…)

Today’s stars are our stunning Filipinodillo sp. ‘Crocodile’ 🐊

One thing we get asked all the time is:

“Why aren’t my isopods breeding?”

The truth is, most of the time it’s something simple.

Here are the three biggest reasons we see 👇

💧 1. They’re too dry

Many species need a proper moisture gradient. Keep one side of the enclosure consistently moist and allow the other side to stay a little drier so they can regulate themselves naturally.

🍂 2. Not enough leaf litter

Leaf litter isn’t decoration, it’s one of the most important parts of their environment.

It provides food, shelter and security. If your enclosure looks a little messy, you’re probably doing something right.

🫣 3. You’re checking on them too often

We know it’s exciting (and we’re all guilty of it 🤣), but constantly lifting hides and disturbing the colony can slow things down.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is… absolutely nothing.

🪲 Bonus tip: Bigger isn’t always better.

A smaller, well-established enclosure will often produce better results than a huge enclosure with lots of unused space.

Remember, isopods aren’t instant pets. Give them the right conditions, leave them alone, and nature usually takes care of the rest.

Watching these Filipinodillo sp. ‘Crocodile’ tucked away under their cork bark is a great reminder that healthy colonies spend most of their time doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing… hiding, eating and quietly multiplying behind the scenes.

👇 What’s the species you’ve struggled the most to get breeding? Pop it in the comments and we’ll do our best to help.

😂 And be honest… how many times have you lifted a piece of cork bark today just to “have a quick look”?

👀 A quick peek inside the MicroExotics invert cabinet… and believe it or not, this is only a fraction of what we’ve got available! 🕷️🦂🪲🐛

One thing we hear all the time is, “I didn’t realise you stocked those!”

The truth is, we have loads of species available that never actually make it onto the website. Between breeding projects, fresh arrivals and limited numbers, it’s almost impossible to keep everything updated.

So if you’re after something unusual, rare, or just want to see what’s currently available, drop us a message – there’s a good chance we’ve got something tucked away that isn’t listed online. 👀

Whether you’re into tarantulas, isopods, millipedes, mantis or all things weird and wonderful, the cabinet is looking very full at the moment! 🔥

📩 Message us with your wish list.

⚠️ Fair warning: browsing the cabinet may result in accidental purchases and a rapidly disappearing bank balance. We accept no responsibility. 😂

🌈🐛 Thai Rainbow Millipedes caught in the act!

A special moment from our breeding projects here at MicroExotics – our beautiful Thai Rainbow Millipedes (Litostrophus cf. segregatus) mating. 💚

Captive breeding is at the heart of everything we do. Every successful pairing helps us build sustainable captive populations and reduces reliance on wild-caught specimens, ensuring these incredible animals remain available to future generations of keepers.

Their vibrant colours, peaceful temperament and fascinating behaviours make them one of our favourite species to work with, and seeing natural breeding behaviour never gets old.

Here’s to the next generation of Thai Rainbows! 🌈✨

Would you add these incredible millipedes to your collection?

Forget dragons… these fit in the palm of your hand. 🐉

Armadillidae sp. “Qilin” are one of the most striking isopods in the hobby, with heavily textured armour and an almost mythical appearance.

Tiny. Ancient-looking. Absolutely stunning.

Would these make it into your dream isopod collection? 👀

🌿💥 TERRARIUM VS RAGE ROOM 💥🌿

What happens when .exotics teams up with

A slow-motion terrarium destruction video that’s WAY too satisfying 😭🔥

Hours of careful setup…
Gone in seconds.
Glass flying everywhere.
Pure cinematic carnage. 💀

Safe to say this collab was an absolute smash 😉

If you’re local and need to let off some steam, definitely check out ACT YOUR RAGE next door to our HQ — because after packing bugs all week… we kinda get it 👀

Tag someone who’d enjoy smashing this 😂👇

Motherhood… but make it 100 legs 🖤🔥

Our female Vietnamese Centipede, Scolopendra dehaani, guarding her freshly hatched pedelings like the fierce queen she is 👑🐛

Unlike most inverts, centipedes are incredibly protective mothers — curling around their babies, cleaning them, defending them, and refusing to leave the brood until the youngsters are ready to venture out alone.

Tiny legs everywhere… and one VERY protective mum 😅

Would you keep a species this intense? 👀
