July recap📆

Back to back sits meant July sped by for us, but we still got up to lots of fun adventures seeking out all the good swim spots with lots of return clients

Seeing lots of these dogs regularly really opens up the ability to do more with them as I've got to know them so well

Whoops, we are behind on our monthly recaps so please bare with us while we catch up!

June started with some showers and then took off in to early morning walks trying to juggle dogs and a heat wave🥵

We added a few newbies to the pack and enjoyed lots of group walks

You couldnt have told old me that give it a few years and I'd be walking Ced with other dogs, let alone heading out with a pack of 7+ as just a normal morning walk with our friends?!

Proud of how this little idea has grown and my boy for keeping up and continuing to grow with it 🥰

Boys night
7 male dogs all out for a wander together, including 1 newbie and we had no postering or strutting about

We did have drama with Swallows drive bombing us?! and bringing the energy very high but that was the perfect opportunity to work through the excitement

Daily training doesn't have to always be the serious stuff or take up hours of your day - got a free 5 minutes? Use it for a super quick, fun session

Here's 5 ideas we like - perfect for when youre waiting for the kettle to boil, or for the washing to be done

• Nail trims - dont aim for every nail, just a few short reps with the clippers out if thats where you're at

• Collaborative chewing - hold the chew if safe to do so or offer additional snacks from a safe distance

• Play / Markers - sprinkle in some impulse control

• Co- regulation - got a dog thats always 100mph? Try just sitting and breathing together for 5 minutes

• Gear Desensisting - got a peice of gear your dog avoids, offer them a chance to move towards it for a reward without the need for it to be put on fully

Tag us in your 5 minute training session ideas!

Ced is enjoying the game of tug
Moose is enjoying possessing the toy

The differences are subtle, but knowing what to look for in your dogs behaviour can help level up how you play

Body language is key
Ced is wiggly, brings the toy straight to me and knows tug is a guessing game - will he win the toy or not? So he's optimistic

Moose isn't necessarily tense, but when I call him, he gives me a wide berth and aims to go straight back to moving away from me
This tells me that if I reach for the toy to tug, he probably won't see it as just a fun game, but more me trying to take the thing he has

So, how do you change their mindset?
▪️More toys - have a couple of the same toy and make the one you have seem fun, they'll probably get fomo and come to you!
▪️be unpredictable - don't always reach for the toy just because they brought it to you, instead add in things like running away, offer them a food reward or just let them hang out around you with the toy
▪️Don't forget to let them win often! If the times they bring you the toy, you always ask for an out or take the toy from them, it may be what's putting them off bringing it back the next time

Next time your dog avoids bringing the toy back, try one of these out and let us know if it helps!

One thing about me - I think dogs sleeping is adorable so I will always take a photo 😂

Anyone else?
