🍂 Keep your pets safe this autumn! 🐾

Harvest mites thrive in late summer and autumn, particularly in woodland and long grass. These tiny, bright orange parasites can attach themselves to passing pets, often gathering around the ears, eyelids, feet and tummy. Watch for intense itching or crusty skin lesions, and regularly check your pet’s coat.

Enjoy the autumn weather, but keep a watchful eye out for parasites and other seasonal hazards. If you notice anything unusual or need advice about suitable treatments, please contact us. 🧡

🐾 New CKD guide for cat owners

The International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) and International Cat Care have released a practical new guide to help caregivers understand and manage chronic kidney disease (CKD) in cats.

CKD is especially common in older cats. Possible signs include weight loss, increased thirst and urination, reduced appetite, vomiting and lethargy.

The guide explains:

🐱 How CKD is diagnosed and monitored
🥣 Nutrition, hydration and medication
🏡 Ways to make the home more comfortable
❤️ How owners and veterinary teams can work together

With appropriate care, cats with CKD can enjoy many years of good quality life.

🐾 Could this research help shape the future of canine pain relief?

Scientists supported by BSAVA PetSavers have been studying a specific pain-signalling target in dogs sensory neurons!

This could contribute to the development of new approaches to canine pain management in the future. This is exploratory research not a new treatment currently available but it is an encouraging example of how veterinary science continues to advance.
