A new proposal could bring relief to frightened pets.
The UK government has launched a 12-week consultation on possible restrictions for the loudest fireworks sold to the public. Under the proposal, some higher-noise products could be limited to professional displays while celebrations would still be allowed to continue.
Animal welfare groups say sudden bangs and flashes can cause significant distress for pets. Research cited by the Royal Kennel Club found that 80% of dog owners notice major behavior changes during fireworks, while reports of missing dogs double during fireworks season.
