Shoot Prep Training Day - now sold out!

5th September
9am-3pm
Burley Woodhead

This training day focuses on prep needed for the shoot season, including steadiness, impulse control, stop to movement, not chasing, stop whistle, retrieving the correct dummy, sweeping.

The day is suitable for those at Novice or Intermediate level.

To participate in this day your dog must:
- Have reliable recall
- Have good general obedience
- Have a stop whistle
- Have an interest in retrieving
- Intending on working them in the 2026-7 shooting season.

All exercises can be made easier and harder as needed. If you're unsure on the level please ask.

The day includes ~2.5 hours of training, followed by a lunch break, then a further ~2.5 hours of training.

Julys winner is... Angus 🤎

Angus and his owner Sue have been working very hard on his “stage fright” when retrieving around other dogs and people. His delivery when it’s just him and Sue is perfect, but bring him into a group and it has been more inconsistent. On both a full training day and 3-1 session this month, Angus absolutely shone and his delivery was amazing nearly every single retrieve! Amazing work 🤩

I recently ran a Straight Lines and Blinds Training Day for 6 handlers and their dogs.

The day focused on making sure the dogs know how to travel in a straight line and continue to run that same line without diverting or getting distracted. This is especially important for blind retrieves.

To help the dogs understand this , we did lots of drills that got progressively harder throughout the day. We had to make sure the dogs were going where they had been lined out to!

I’m now on holiday 😎

I have a bit of a complicated schedule of holiday and work coming up (I know you’re not surprised by that!):

Out of office: 27th June - 5th July
Back to work: 6-9th July
Out of office again: 10-14th July
Back to work properly: 15th July

I will be leaving Juno in charge of the business while I’m away… you may find we suddenly diversify into an agency for Diva Dogs 👸👑

When I am out of office I will not be replying to any messages, emails etc. I appreciate your patience whilst I turn my brain off for a bit 🫶🏻

Intermediate Life Skills Course - 19th July start 🌟

This progressive 6 session course will introduce you to all of the intermediate life skills that every dog needs. Perfect for dogs who have completed the Novice Life Skills Course.

The course will cover:
Handling
Motivation
Polite greetings
Breed specific games
Stopping unwanted behaviours
Sit / stay
Recall
Loose lead walking / heelwork
Leave It
Emergency Stop

This is the perfect way for adolescent dogs to expand their learning on the skills needed for everyday life.

Includes completion pack from Riverside Animal Supplies.

After booking you will receive a Handbook with detailed information about the course including equipment list, location, etc.

This is the perfect course for you if:
• You have completed the Novice Life Skills Course.
• You want to continue teaching important skills.
• You want to have fun with your dog.
• You want to train your dog in a safe, inclusive environment.
• You want honest advice and help with your dog.

Requirements for the Intermediate Life Skills Course:
Dog age: 6 months plus.
Dog training level: must have previously done the Novice Life Skills Course or similar.
Aggression: aggressive / reactive dogs not allowed.
Noise: dog should not be noisy (barking / whining) in a group environment.
Medical: dogs with injuries / illnesses or those in season should not attend.
Client status: must be training with us before booking.

Recently we ran a Foundation Gundog Training Morning with 6 clients.

We trained for nearly 3 hours doing a variety of obedience and different retrieving types. This included improving confidence over distance, navigating ditches and streams, and introducing water retrieves.

Most of the dogs and handlers hadn’t trained for longer than an hour before, so it was a totally new experience. We’re also very lucky to have such challenging ground to train on and the dogs did amazing at staying focused despite all the scent, wildlife and the occasional sheep!

Everyone absolutely smashed it!! 🤩
