Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in pets?

By the age of 3, many dogs and cats already have signs of dental disease - and it often goes unnoticed.

Signs to watch for:

⚠️ Bad breath
⚠️ Yellow or brown tartar build-up
⚠️ Red or bleeding gums
⚠️ Difficulty eating or dropping food
⚠️ Pawing at the mouth
⚠️ Changes in behaviour

Left untreated, dental disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, and even affect major organs like the heart and kidneys.
The good news? It’s preventable and manageable with early intervention.

We’re offering FREE dental checks to help catch problems early and keep your pet comfortable and healthy.

During your visit, we’ll:

✔ Check your pet’s teeth and gums
✔ Advise on home care (tooth brushing, diet, dental chews)
✔ Recommend treatment if needed

A healthy mouth = a happier pet!

We’re continuing with our ‘Meet the Team’ posts this month - so, let’s meet Amanda!

Many of you will know Amanda, the Practice Manager at The Market Town Vet. She helps lead an incredible team, and says she loves every aspect of her job, taking great pride in the work they do together.

Alongside her husband, Rob - the lead vet and owner - Amanda helps to oversee the running of the practices, making their work a true family passion.

Outside of the clinic, Amanda enjoys running with her golden doodle, Nancy, who is always up for an adventure. Family is everything to Amanda; she’s a proud mother of five and a grandmother to three. Balancing her career and family keeps life busy, but she wouldn’t have it any other way! 💕

If Amanda has ever made an impression on your life or your pet’s, let us know in the comments!

We’re incredibly proud of our Google ratings (4.8/5 for Oswestry, and 5/5 for Shrewsbury!), and we’re always thankful for the feedback we receive.

We’ve had some lovely reviews lately, but here are a couple that stood out.

To all our new Whitchurch clients, we can’t wait to get to know you, and as with our other practices, we welcome your feedback!

As always, thank you to everyone who takes the time to leave us feedback - it never goes unnoticed 💕

“We thought it was normal… until we had it checked.”

We hear this a lot from owners of flat-faced breeds.

Snoring, snorting, struggling on walks - these things are often brushed off as “just part of their personality.” But for many dogs, it’s actually a sign they’re finding it hard to breathe.

Imagine trying to exercise, sleep, or even relax… all while breathing through a narrowed airway.

That’s the reality for many pets affected by BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome).

That’s why we offer FREE BOAS checks - to help spot problems early and give your pet the comfort they deserve.

Our friendly team will:

🐶 Take the time to assess your dog calmly
💬 Listen to your concerns
📋 Explain everything clearly - no pressure, just support

If you’ve ever wondered whether your dog’s breathing is “normal”, this is your sign to get it checked.

Found a lump on your pet? Don’t wait, get it checked.

It’s very common for pet owners to discover lumps and bumps on their dogs or cats, especially as they get older. While many are harmless (such as fatty lumps), others can be more serious - and it’s impossible to tell just by looking or feeling.

Early detection really does make a difference. The sooner we assess a lump, the more options we have for treatment - and in some cases, it could be life-saving.

What should you look out for?

🔍 New lumps or bumps
🔍 Existing lumps that are growing, changing shape, or becoming firmer
🔍 Lumps that seem sore, red, or ulcerated
🔍 Any change in your pet’s behaviour around the area

We can quickly and gently assess lumps, often with a simple needle test (fine needle aspiration) that gives us valuable information.

If you’re ever unsure, trust your instincts. We’d always rather check a lump and reassure you than miss something important.

Give us a call to book a check - it’s always better to be safe.
