I think we really miss the mark sometimes in our training, and aim for different things to what the dog needs.
There needs to be more thought about how we built the dogs confidence and skill, but just through foundations but through consolidation.
This weekend the next Human ID Handler course begins. One of the hardest courses out there for handlers, as the back bone of it is the homework.
The consolation of skills and learning between each weekend, to help the dogs really understand following a specific persons scent accurately.
Then being tested on it in just seven months time.
The teams will be guided through the process with me and Dee from Canine Nose Skills but they'll have to invest in their home work time to consolidate their learning between weekends, so we can progress then when we see them. Because if they don't do the work, the dogs won't be able to progress. You can't wing this course.
I'm excited to start with eight new handlers and start the process all over again.
