It's so important to me that our yard is just as peaceful for owners as it is for the horses, I want that relaxed supportive environment. That means we have to have the right people and this week that showed!

Unfortunately the big girl ended up in hospital with colic on Monday - vets still unsure why. She's now back home and settling in, before we transition her back onto the track.

Everyone stepped up and offered support, big thank you to my lovely liveries ❤️

On Tuesday evening we opened up the back field, coming into winter it just gives the horses more forage options and helps keep the mud down on the track.

Even though this field is the furthest away it's my favourite because of the view!!

People often ask how the old timers cope on the track..

Like most older horses they still need a little extra TLC! The movement of the track is beneficial for all horses but especially those with arthritis that need to keep moving.

4-5 days a week our two older horses go onto grass for the day, this week they moved onto a new patch - which was slowly introduced at a few hours a day.

We mainly use small holed haynets on the track, but we have a handful of regular holed nets out - this is for the whole herd and to offer an alternative. The oldies will be monitored over winter and have their own hay station with larger holed nets or loose hay if needed.

We have spaces available for retirement - that be age related, injury or just for horses looking for a quieter life.

Nets nets nets!

Very lucky to have been able to quickly snap up some second hand nets from another Trackie.

I had to borrow Fern's paddling pool to disinfect them.. I always wash any second hand items I buy regardless if they come clean, it's something we maybe don't talk about enough. But shouldn't it be part of our bio security to wash second hand items before introducing them to our horses? 🦠

We use Shires Soft Mesh, for those that don't know these nets are knotless and super soft! We mainly use the smaller 1 inch holed nets but we also have a handful of bigger holed nets in circulation too.

The next week will be spent changing the rope to one that's a bit more robust and smoother for untying.
