Some more sad news to share today, unfortunately, as I found out yesterday evening that my little hamster client Tilly has passed away this week. 🌈💔

Hamsters have a short life expectancy of just 2–3 years, and sadly, many spend their lives in tiny, unsuitable cages with very little opportunity to express their natural behaviours.

I'm so pleased to say that Tilly wasn't one of those hamsters. ❤️ Her mum provided her with a spacious 100 x 50cm enclosure, deep, soft bedding to burrow in, and plenty of opportunities to forage, chew and do all the things that hamsters love 🐹 So I want to celebrate the good life she had and the care she received, and I hope Tilly can help educate others about hamster welfare.

The tiny cages you still see in pet shops aren't necessarily suitable just because they're being sold. Please do your research before bringing a hamster (or ANY animal) home, because they deserve so much more than the bare minimum. ❤️

As most of you know by now, I'm not just a crazy cat lady. I adore all animals equally. One of the perks of my job is getting to make friends with the local wildlife too! 🥰 This little squirrel was more than happy to take a nut from me in a client's garden, where I've been asked to feed the wildlife as well as care for the pets.

I know not everyone agrees with feeding wildlife, but personally, I think humans have taken far more from them than we've ever given back. We take away their habitats, destroy their homes, take over their land and disrupt their food sources. Then, all too often, we persecute them for simply trying to survive in a world that we've made increasingly difficult for them.

So if I can offer a helping hand and a bit of something back, then I'm happy to do so. ❤️ They were here long before us, and they deserve compassion too. 🐿️🌿

Today, I received the sad news that our kitty client Oscar has passed away. 😞💔

Oscar was a senior boy with bags of love to give. A lap cat through and through, he would make a beeline for your knee the moment you sat down, before settling down for a snooze after baking a big batch of biscuits. 🐾

With this in mind, it's bittersweet to know that Oscar passed away in his favourite place in the whole world, curled up asleep on his dad's knee. ❤️

The loss of a pet is always difficult, but there's a little comfort in knowing that Oscar crossed the Rainbow Bridge feeling warm, happy and loved, in the arms of his favourite person. I hope that brings some solace to his loved ones, too.

Sleep tight, sweet Oscar. Thank you for all the cuddles (and biscuits) 🌈🐾❤️

Today I had the pleasure of visiting new kitten clients Penelope and Phoebe 😻

I already know their humans from previous visits to Zeus and Pumpkin, but after the sad loss of sweet Pumpkin, they felt that Zeus might enjoy having a new friend. ❤️

It turns out Zeus got more than he bargained for, because when his owner visited the rescue, they couldn't bear to leave one kitten behind, so Phoebe and Penelope found their forever home together 😻😻

A big welcome to the beautiful Billy, who has recently joined The Cat Care Co crew! 🐾💖

I’ve actually been looking after Billy for over a week now, but he’d been hiding so well I hadn’t actually seen him! 😂

When I arrived last night he was sitting in the window, so I changed tactics. I waved my cat toys for him through the glass, and put my hand on the window to get him used to being close to me. The neighbours must have thought I was some kind of bonkers burglar, but, miracle of miracles... it worked! Within five minutes, he was out of hiding, playing, giving head bops and enjoying some fuss 💖

I think he’s finally realised I’m here to be his friend… no more being a silly Billy! 😅 🐈‍⬛
