🐾 Friday’s Follow-Up Lessons in the Community 🐾

Friday we had two follow-up lessons in the community with two lovely dogs who have both previously been for residential training.

🐶 First up was a little Sprocker, working with her owner on improving her heel work when she gets excited. The focus was also on getting her to stay engaged and pay attention to her owner, even when there are distractions around her.

🐕 The second lesson was with a lovely Labrador, with the focus on building her confidence. We worked along the canal before heading for a well-deserved café stop ☕️. This gave her the opportunity to practise focusing on us rather than getting distracted by all the people, noise and activity around her.

Both dogs did brilliantly and we had some great results! 🙌

Of course, the hardest part of dog training is usually training the owners… and they both know it! 😂

Both dogs are now booked in again for further community training, so we’ll continue building on the progress they’ve already made. ❤️🐾

Just back from training with this lovely Sprocker, who is currently with me for residential training. 🐾

Today we headed out from Uppermill, walking up to a lovely café in Diggle before making our way back along the canal.

She was very excited at the beginning of the walk, but soon settled into her heel work beautifully. ❤️

We also worked on settling in the café. I use a few small treats to reward calm behaviour, followed by a bigger treat to keep her occupied and focused, so she isn’t bothered by the other people and dogs around her.

Another lovely training session and she’s making great progress! 🐶

Out in the Community Lesson 🐾

This lovely girl has completed her 5-lesson package and came back for some top-up training out in the community.

We worked on heelwork and calmly passing other dogs, as well as stopping at a café. Her owner had been struggling to get her settled when out and about, so we used the opportunity to work through this together.

After our café stop, we continued training all the way back to the cars, putting everything we had practised into action.

Sometimes you just need a little extra help and guidance to build your confidence when out in the community. ❤️
