Many congratulations to Sam Howley with his dog Merlin (Harrachtain Ebudae) for gaining a Certificate of Merit at the Leicestershire Gundog Society Novice Dog / Novice Handler working test yesterday.

This is a brilliant result for Sam & Merlin in only their second ever test! We are so pleased for them as not only does Sam train with us, but additionally we bred Merlin who is Sully’s brother.

We are looking forward to seeing how far they can progress in tests and hopefully field trials.

This morning the final owner selections have been made, so we know which puppy is going to which home.

The little lady who will be staying with us is Miss pink collar!

I’d like to say Rachel went through a detailed analysis of each puppy and came to the most detailed, thought out, logical conclusion. In reality the Pink collar puppy gave her almost no choice in the matter. She seems to have decided that she was Rachel’s puppy since she was old enough to run about.

I believe her name will be Ellie and her ‘posh name’ is Spinnakeu Moorcote Storm.

So once the puppies have departed to their new homes, keep an eye out for some regular updates on Ellie’s training.

My initial assessment of Ellie is that she is very responsive, very bold and looks like a bit of a live-wire!

Week 3 of our Puppy Foundation Course!

What a great group! Everyone is making fantastic progress and it’s lovely to see the puppies growing in confidence each week.

This week we worked on lead walking, you can never do enough of this!! focus around distractions, sits and stays and proofing it! We also found out what motivated one pup! 🐟

Well done everyone for all your hard work at home, it’s what you do between each class that’s important!

I couldn’t decide on my favourite photo so I’ve put a selection!

Wren’s pups will be 6 weeks on Tuesday. Next week Rachel picks her puppy followed by the new owners making their selections. I know which one I think she will keep, but we’ll see!😉

Yesterday I ran Sully (Harrachtain Shepherds Moon) in the Leicestershire Gundog Society Novice Retriever test at Dingley near Market Harborough.

Out of a field of 39 competing dogs he was awarded third place and also awarded a prize for the youngest dog in the awards. He won’t be two until August and I think may well have been the youngest dog in the competition.

A little bit of inexperience on his part probably cost us the first place, but his willingness to work with me allowed us to come away with a very creditable place. I really feel he has great potential and I love training and working him.

It’s all very tiring being a 4 week old puppy!

Pups first day out in the garden pen! They really settled in quickly. We have 2 of our grandchildren staying at the moment so the pups are getting use to small people!!

A bit of early training for the puppies! When we feed a litter of pups we will whistle to let them know it’s food time. As you can see it hasn’t taken long for them to figure it out!

Today they met the remaining three sets of new owners. Looks like they have some lovely people to go to and mostly lots of opportunities to train and work.

They are developing so quickly and really starting to get some character as well as new sharp teeth!😂

The kennel club registrations have come through. Our theme for this litter is based on our holidays in Yorkshire. We were away while Wren was pregnant. So the KC reg names are:

Boys:
Spinnakeu Leyburn
Spinnakeu Brymor
Spinnakeu Druid’s Temple
Spinnakeu Masham

Girls:
Spinnakeu Aysgarth
Spinnakeu Ellingstring
Spinnakeu Moorcote Storm

Spinnakeu Moorcote Storm will be the puppy we keep. Named after the cottages we stay in and also in memory of our dog Storm who died earlier this year.
