I have passed my Canine Hoopers UK Level 1 Instructor assessments! 🥳

I'm looking forward to getting stuck into more hoopers training with you all 🐾

Thanks to Ryan Matthews for being a very patient "student" for the teaching assessments, it tested our marriage at times! 🤣

November Dates are now up!

⭐ New Classes ⭐

Training Walks - join me for a group training walk where we take the chance to practice skills in real world environments. Various locations will be available, up to six spaces per class. Please note we will be encouraging the dogs to be calm and neutral in the presence of other dogs and people, if you have a dog that needs a little extra space and would prefer not to say hello to the others, that's fine! Dogs will need to be kept on lead unless directed by me.

Please note, due to hall availability, the following classes will take place at Belstone Village Hall

Introduction to Scentwork - 4 week course
Teach your dog the basics of Scentwork including building an indication, learning handling skills and practicing some beginner searches. Provides a head start into my monthly Scentwork classes.

Puppy Life Skills - 4 week course
If you're lucky enough to have recently welcomed a new addition into your home, get them off to the best start. Teach them important life skills such as socialisation, focusing on you, impulse control, recall, loose lead walking and more.

The dogs were in fine sniffing form for their Scentwork class this morning. For the newer dogs we worked on building a positive association with the scent, whilst the more experienced dogs looked at adding a little duration to their indications. Then we did some line ups where we looked at handling methods to help the dogs search methodically. Finally we finished with some free searches to help build the dogs independence. They all did really well 🥰.

Yesterday evening we had our first hoopers class at The Grange. We worked on our startline waits, building confidence with the hoops, barrels and tunnel and started looking at getting a little independence from the dogs. Everyone did really well, particularly considering it was a new environment.

Thank you very much to North Park Veterinary Group for the informative first aid talk yesterday evening. It was really useful to know what to do in case of an emergency, when immediate veterinary attention is required and the Q&A with the vets afterwards. If they hold another one, I'd definitely recommend!

Yesterday we trialled our new winter venue for Hoopers at The Grange and had a great session. All the dogs coped really well with the new environment and surface.

We built on our value for hoops and worked on our front and rear crosses. I also practiced Drift's independence. In this clip I'm stood at the other end of the barn! Next up working on maintaining his forward focus on the startline at this distance 😁

There are limited spaces available for our Halloween Spooktacular!

You're invited to celebrate Halloween with us at Sampford Courtenay Village Hall.

Our main event is the Halloween Mystery Scent Challenge...

Dust off your detective skills as you and your dog need to find clues to help solve the mystery. Can you find out who did it?

You don't need to be a Scentwork wizz to give the challenge a go. Dogs who are new to Scentwork can search for food.

The other options are Kong and Catnip, please specify what you'd like your dog to search for when making the booking.

To make it fair to the dogs searching for Kong and Catnip, those searching for food will go last.

Other activities on offer include:

🎃 Nibbles
🎃 Music

There will be prizes on offer!

If you are the owner of a sensitive dog who would like to take part in the Halloween Mystery Scent Challenge but the rest of the activities would be a bit overwhelming. We have a Scent Challenge only ticket option. These dogs would have a separate entrance to the Scent Challenge area and would stay in their cars between searches.
