With freezing nights the old ladies here have got their 50g rugs on overnight to help conserve some of their energy. Plenty of hay/forage to keep the furnace burning all night and leg wraps on their arthritic joints to keep them comfortable.
If you have horses that are overweight, now is a good time to get weight off them. Horses can cope with cold weather really well when it's dry like this. The more sensitive horses will tend to get cold when there is also relentless wind and rain.

Beautiful Icelandic pony Vinur has come to join the herd so he can benefit from the freedom of living out in a herd 24/7 and I know his owner (Vinur too, but he doesn't know it yet) is excited to get out and about on the moor for some epic riding ❤️ Here he is pictured in the field with my two mares while he was gradually mixed on to the track with the rest of the horses. Vinur is such a sweetie, has impeccable manners and always comes straight over for a scratch and cuddle or just to see what treat I might have in my pocket. I love the little herd we have going here and I'm so pleased the new boy's are being sweet with the aging mares 🥰
