In my line of work, some of the most satisfying stories are the difficult ones. Dogs that in the beginning aren’t easy, have history, and don’t trust you - those are the most inspiring for me, because we create our own journey together.
Barney was first brought to me as a last resort, his owners had tried multiple groomers, and previously had to have him sedated in order to be groomed, which isn’t ideal for his health, or their bank balance!
Slowly I earned Barney’s trust, figured out his insecurities, and gave him@confidence when he needed it, and we progressed together, to the point that he is now fairly easy to groom. His parents also played a huge part in putting their trust in me, and helping desensitise at home.
Next step, teeth! As you can see from the photos, his teeth were in quite a state. His owners were well aware of the fact that it might be mission impossible, however we all thought it was worth a try…
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning is fab because it is non-invasive - no vibration, no scrubbing, you just need to desensitise the dog, so that it gets used to what you are doing. If I wasn’t a convert before, then I am now! 10 sessions later and Barney barely makes a fuss, his teeth have gone from disgusting, to mostly white. We still have more work to do, but all in all I am very proud of the little dude for trusting me, learning, and being a star!
