✨️Building It in Stages✨️

✨️The Stay✨️

A good Stay isn’t taught by simply asking your dog to stay and walking away nor is it built by causing any negative experience if they move from position.

It’s built gradually through different stages.
🔹 1. Duration – Can your dog remain in position for longer?
🔹 2. Distance – Can you move further away without your dog getting up?
🔹 3. Distractions – Can your dog maintain the Stay while people, dogs and other things are happening around them?
🔹 4. Different environments – Can they do it somewhere new, not just in the training hall?

The key is to build one stage at a time and always return to your dog and "reward" them for getting it right.

Remember: distance, duration and distractions should be increased gradually.

✨️Food Manners✨️

Food is a great way to teach impulse control, patience and self-control!

In this exercise, our dogs are learning that they don’t need to rush, grab or jump for food. Instead, they’re encouraged to wait calmly and listen to their handler before being rewarded especially if a tasty pack of something is being rustled by a stranger in front of them.

They all did a fantastic job 👏 ❤️

These simple skills can make a big difference in everyday life, helping your dog develop polite manners and better self-control around food and other exciting distractions.

✨️ Engagement & Manners✨️

Training isn’t just about teaching dogs commands, it’s about helping them learn how to remain calm, focused & connected with you in everyday situations.

In this session, one of our owners is working on controlled walking, engagement and focus, encouraging their dog to stay connected with them while moving around distractions and various environments without the use of a lead or any training tool for that matter.

🚪 Good door entrance and exit manners are an essential part of the exercise. The dog is encouraged to wait, remain calm and enter and exit through the doorway under control, rather than rushing through or pulling their handler along.

These simple skills can make a huge difference in everyday life, whether entering the training hall, leaving the house, getting in and out of the car, or navigating busy environments.

✨ Calmness + focus + control = better everyday walks and a stronger partnership between dog and handler.

This is just 1 great example of practical skills being developed through structured training at Premier Puppy & Dog Training Club Nuneaton. 💚🐾

✨️Calm Lead Walking ✨️

In this short video, you can see one of our groups working together outdoors, focusing on calm, controlled walking and engagement around other dogs and people.

Our handlers are encouraging their dogs to focus on them rather than becoming distracted by the sights, sounds and activity around them.
This is such an important part of everyday training — teaching dogs to listen, stay connected with their handler and remain calm when faced with distractions. (We've chucked in a few tighter directional changes too).

Working in a group environment is a great way to build confidence and help prepare dogs for the real-world situations they experience on everyday walks.

🐾Good manners aren’t just about training in isolation. Dogs need to be taught how to listen and behave appropriately when distractions are all around them too. (Spot the happy waggy tails).

✨️The Stay✨️

At Premier Puppy & Dog Training Club, our dogs are practising their STAY command!

The owners are gradually increasing the distance between themselves and their dogs, while asking them to remain calmly in position until released.

This is more than simply teaching a dog to sit and wait — we're building impulse control, patience, focus and reliability, even when their owner moves away and there are other dogs and people around.

The aim is to develop a stay that works in the real world, not just in the training hall.
