Food drive isn’t something you have to create by making a dog hungry enough to finally give in. Some dogs will inhale anything vaguely edible (or not, I’m looking at you labradorsšŸ˜‚) from day one. Others genuinely need to learn that food is worth engaging with and there are loads of ways to build that without turning mealtimes into a battle of wills.

Use what your dog already values. Make delivery exciting. Let food unlock freedom, play or access to the environment. Teach puppies that they can eat confidently in different places before expecting them to perform obedience there.

And look at the whole picture.

Is your dog too aroused to eat?
Are they overwhelmed by the environment?
Are they filling up on chews, toppers and extras all day?
Has plain food become boring because something better always appears if they wait long enough?
Could a gradual diet change give you something new to build value in?

Ada’s food drive grew massively when food became the gateway to things she actually wanted.
Billy came to me accustomed to daily toppers and expecting something better than his kibble.
And with Maeve, I deliberately spent puppyhood teaching her how to eat everywhere before I cared about getting obedience anywhere.

Different dogs. Different problems. Different solutions.

The aim isn’t you’ll eat because eventually you’ll be hungry enough, even though it’s preached so often that existential feeding = emotional change (news flash, it doesn’t!).

Food drive can be BUILT and no, your dog does not need to be starving to have it.

IT’S A RUFF TIME FOR DOG PROS ā¤ļø

When it’s too hot to safely work, they put your dog first, but that often means losing their income.

Most are self-employed. No sick pay. No holiday pay. No guaranteed wage.

Then there’s fuel, insurance, CPD, equipment and all the other costs of running a responsible business. For many ethical dog pros, there really isn’t much left at the end of it.

And most won’t tell you that.

So if your dog pro has to cancel because of the heat, please support them where you can. Rebook, leave a review, recommend them or simply share their business.

They’re looking out for our dogs. Let’s look out for them too. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

THE PUPPY PROJECT:

If you’ve just brought home a puppy and you’re terrified of getting it wrong, this is for you!

The biggest mistake most owners make isn’t teaching sit or paw too late- it’s accidentally allowing habits that become problems later.

ā€¼ļøJumping up.
ā€¼ļøPulling on the lead.
ā€¼ļøIgnoring recall.
ā€¼ļøOver-excitement around people and dogs.
ā€¼ļøFeeling overwhelmed in busy places.
ā€¼ļøReactivity in public.

Most of these don’t appear overnight, they’re built through puppyhood and the incorrect foundations.

That’s exactly why I created The Puppy Project.

This isn’t a village hall puppy class where everyone stands in a circle hoping their puppy will listen for an hour.

We’ll be training where life actually happens.

ā˜• CafĆ©s.
🌳 Parks.
šŸ• Around other dogs.
🚶 Busy public places.
šŸ” In your own home.

Over 8 weeks we’ll work together to raise a dog that’s calm, confident and genuinely enjoyable to live with. Not just a puppy that can perform a few tricks.

You’ll get:
āœ” 1:1 home sessions
āœ” Small real world group classes
āœ” Personalised training plans
āœ” Confidence building
āœ” Loose lead walking
āœ” Reliable recall
āœ” Vet and grooming preparation
āœ” Fulfilment and enrichment tailored to your dog’s breed
āœ” Ongoing support throughout the course
āœ” A final troubleshooting session after graduation
āœ”ļø A puppy pack to assist you with the course

Whether your goal is a cafĆ© dog, an adventure buddy or simply a dog you can take anywhere without stress, we’ll build those foundations from day one.

🐶 Suitable for puppies from 8 weeks old.

What We Get Up To Behind the Scenes…

Training sessions and walks are only part of what happens here at Ada&Co. 🐾

Behind the scenes, we also open our home to foster dogs, helping them build the skills and confidence they need before finding their forever families. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Meet our two gorgeous fosters currently looking for their perfect homes:

šŸ–¤ Billy: A 3 year old working line German Shepherd. Billy is an incredible dog with so much potential. He would thrive in an active, experienced home where he has a job to do, whether that’s dog sports, working or another outlet that allows him to use his drive and intelligence. He’s an absolute joy to train and has so much to offer the right person.

Billy is crate trained, toilet trained, travels well, has good ball and food drive, and is a super handler focused dog. He is more than capable of living with other dogs in a structured home.

šŸ¤ Eden: An 11 month old Border Collie. Eden is a bright young girl who needs an experienced home committed to continuing her training and giving her appropriate mental and physical outlets. She’s made fantastic progress with us and deserves a home that will help her continue to flourish. Eden would be best suited to an adult only home due to a minor bite history, which can be discussed.

Fostering isn’t always easy, but watching these dogs grow in confidence and preparing them for their forever homes makes every second worthwhile. ā¤ļø

If you think you could offer either Billy or Eden the home they deserve, or you’d like to know more about them, please get in touch.

Please share this post with anyone you know who may be suitable for these wonderful dogs. 🐾
