Tell your dog ā€œNoā€ is probably the best way to communicate with them

If you’re unable to tell your dog no, it makes life for them much harder and unclear

Once your dog understands, ok I can do this but I can’t do that, they start to make better choices, resulting in a better behaved dog!

Here’s a simple trick I use to help build my dogs engagement when we are out and about!

Start rewarding the little check ins they give you

Within a matter of walks you’ll see an improvement on your dogs engagement!

Here are the top 3 mistakes I see owners make when training miracles:

1. Repeating Commands over and over, this doesn’t just go for recall, your dog will just learn that your voice is back ground noise

2. Practicing in high distraction areas when the dog isn’t ready, starting a nice quiet area so your dog fully understands what’s being asked will make it a massive difference

3. Not using a longline or flexi lead to reinforce your command, this allows your dog to blow you off when they feel like it

If your struggling with your dogs recall, tell me in the comments whereabouts you think it goes wrong!

Now before you get your knickers in a twist!

Whilst loose lead walking is a good skill to have in your arsenal, a lot of owners are focusing all their efforts on getting there dog to walk nicely past their triggers.

Imagine your dog as a coiled spring just WAITING to pop.

You will NEVER get past the trigger with your dog

Now if we focus on getting your dog reliably off leash, this starts to uncoil that spring and allows the dog to fulfil themselves and decompress

That’s why it should be your priority!

Nobody will tell you this…

Time after time reactive dog owners tell me their dog is trying to ā€œprotectā€ them.

Unfortunately this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Your reactive dog is trying to get the trigger whether that be dog, human, bike or car as far away as possible from them.

So they put on a big display to make it look like they are ā€œprotectingā€ you but in reality they are more nervous then you are!

If this sounds like your dog, Comment ā€œMEā€ and I’ll DM you on how we can get started!

Every time your dog gets scared, you baby them a bit, don’t you?

Pick them up, ā€œit’s okay, it’s okay,ā€ steer them away from whatever spooked them.

Totally get it. Feels like the right thing to do.

But honestly? It backfires. You’re basically telling them they were right to be scared, so they stay scared.

Dogs get braver by doing the scary thing and realising nothing bad happens.

Your dog isn’t fragile. Stop babying, start building them up.

I fix nervous and reactive dogs in Nottingham. DM me ā€œSITHā€ and let’s get started.

More obedience training won’t fix a lunging dog. Here’s why.

Your dog can sit and stay perfectly in your kitchen and still lose it the second another dog appears on the street. That’s not a listening problem. It’s what’s happening in their body before they even get the chance to think about a command.

Anyone else been told ā€œjust needs more trainingā€ and it did absolutely nothing?

Be honest, what time do you actually walk your dog? šŸ‘‡

If it’s 5am or gone 10pm just to dodge other dogs on the street, you know exactly what I mean. Hiding behind parked cars. Skipping the park. Never letting them off lead because you can’t risk it.

That’s not just ā€œhow your dog isā€. It’s fixable. It doesn’t have to run your whole life.

The E collar has done WONDERS for the confidence of my nervous dog

However I’m not here to tell you how beneficial an e collar would be for all dogs

I think a lot of people have an image of the e collar as being a tool to just press whenever they feel like it without a proper understanding of the tool

With the correct and proper use of a e collar, your dog can have the freedom they deserve!
