Isn't Eric adorable! Ive been rubbish at taking photos of 121 dogs recently, but Eric's cool ears were irresistible ๐Ÿ˜‚ Eric is going to be learning how to walk nicely on lead, that recall isnt optional and working on some emotional regulation when he gets over excited. All very normal things to need to work on with a 8month old doggo.

Who wants to guess what breed mix he is? There are 3 breeds in there. ๐Ÿ˜

I'll preface this by saying I know its my job to look at the whole picture, and educate. But. I am tired. I am tired of suggesting pain because everything screams pain, and owners going 'oooh, I dont think it is pain' because x, y, z.

I get it. I do. But i am TIRED. ๐Ÿ˜‚

No. Pain is not always obvious. More often than not dogs hide it. Studies show that approximately 80% of dogs displaying aggressive behaviour have some sort of pain.

I know a lot of owners think im mad when I nag them about getting vets or physio checks. But I promise I am not.

I see this ALL THE TIME. Dogs who are displaying aggressive or reactive behaviours, who owners, and even vets are certain have no issues. Only to then later find out there was pain after all when we get physiotherapy or specialist checks.

I will happily work with any dog. But at the point I believe pain is the most likely underlying cause that is either slowing us down, preventing progress or even cases where it is simply unfair to ask more of your dog, I will always refer back to the vet ir physio.

And yes. Again. In 99% of the dogs i see owners genuinely dont think theres an issue. And most of the time there is something. Be it something 'smaller' and niggly such as ongoing muscle pain, or bigger issues such as early onset arthritis and luxating patella!

Please, if your trainer or behaviourist directs you to get medical investigations (ESPECIALLY for handling, grooming or reactivity issues!) Then do... because otherwise the expectations on your professional, and your dog are super unrealistic and unfair.

Nobody gets hurt by ruling pain out!

Also, shoutout and massive thanks to those who go to the vet / physio without turning it into a battle. I appreciate you!

Just a shoutout to the vets who are laid back and confident with sensitive, or spicy dogs. The ones who need not to be over handled, or faffed around with.

The vets who can get the injection done, the checks over with. Effecient. Practical. Boom. Done. No dithering. No nonsense. No need to make a fuss and try to interact more than necessary. Pretty sure its not a coincidence the ones I keep finding really great at handling the bitey, spicy doggos are the ones who have working dogs or experience with dog sports. ๐Ÿ˜… But yeah. We appreciate you! ๐Ÿ™

THANK YOU. โค๏ธ
