What a manic past few weeks it’s been! The heatwave was unbelievable 🥵 and on many days it was simply too hot to safely take everyone out for their walks. My priority is always your pets’ comfort and wellbeing, so lots of walks became gentle pop-in visits instead.

Those visits were filled with toilet breaks, fresh water, plenty of cuddles, and a little gentle play in the garden before everyone settled back down to keep cool.

There was also lots of cat sitting over the past few weeks, although I forgot to take photos of many of my feline visitors! Sadly, I also had to say goodbye to a few much-loved cats and dogs who had been part of my Poochie Poppins family for many years. They will always hold a special place in my heart and will be greatly missed. 🌈❤️

🐾 Morning Dog Walking & Puppy Visit Availability 🐾

Due to sadly saying goodbye to a few of our much-loved elderly members of the Poochie Poppins family this year, I now have a limited number of morning dog walking spaces available.

I also have availability for midday puppy visits, ideal for toilet breaks, feeding, playtime and plenty of cuddles while you’re at work.

Poochie Poppins has been proudly established since 2015, providing a friendly, reliable and caring service to dogs and their owners across Underwood, Selston, Jacksdale and Brinsley.

🐶 Please note: I specialise in solo walks only, or walks with dogs from the same household. I don’t offer mixed group walks, allowing every dog to enjoy their walk with my full attention in a calm, safe and personalised environment.

💔 A very sad day for Poochie Poppins. 💔

Last night, we sadly said goodbye to our longest-standing gang member, our beautiful Skeg.

It has been an absolute privilege to walk Skeg almost every day for the past 11 years. When I first met him, he was around two years old after being rescued and was very reactive to other dogs.

Then I introduced my own dog, Heidi, and she completely won his heart. She showed him the way, teaching him how to walk calmly alongside other dogs, and from that moment on, everything changed for the better. Watching Skeg grow in confidence and enjoy his walks without worrying about other dogs was one of the greatest rewards of my job.

One of the hardest parts of running Poochie Poppins is that these amazing dogs become so much more than clients—they become family. That’s what makes saying goodbye so incredibly heartbreaking.

Rest in peace, my precious little Skeg. Thank you for 11 wonderful years of love, friendship and unforgettable memories. I’m going to miss you so much. 🌈🐾💔

My thoughts are with Skeg’s wonderful mum right now, who over the years has become a very dear friend of mine. I’ll miss seeing her every day too. 😞❤️

Well tongues are out and it’s too hot already .
Out at 5.45 this morning with my own dogs and just managed to get my too early bird walks in .
Pop ins for the rest of the day to make things comfortable for the fur babies .

I honestly can’t believe how many people I saw yesterday walking dogs in mid day in 30° heat and seeing thier dogs struggling 😡

Seeing as most of my regular dogs I walk are now very senior I will not be walking dogs for the next few days . I do not walk any dog when it gets to 22 degrees , so I will be exchanging dogs walks to pop-ins so we can just chill out in the garden for toilet breaks & have fuss times .

☀️ 🥵 It’s going to be EXTREMELY hot this week, reaching 33°C some days which is just bonkers! That is simply too hot for any dog to be out about in. Please, please leave your dogs at home with plenty of cooling aids to help keep their temperature down ♥️ Even a 5 minute walk down the road can leave them with burns on their pads and still risk serious heat stroke in such a short period. It literally isn’t worth the risk.

🐰 Let’s also not forget about the little ones - guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens etc… they too will be at major risk with this heat and it’s essential to keep them out of the sun. We will be doing more posts and stories on this, to give advice and hopefully bring more awareness 👍🏼
