I had such a fabulous day today at the university of Nottingham networking day. I saw some friends from my past university days and met some new friends! A huge shout out to Sarah Marlor for giving me a lift there. It was a really fun and informative day and I canโ€™t wait to go again next year!๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿฅฐ
For those who didnโ€™t know I also had to push myself out of my comfort zone and do a lecture about how to train your canine clients to do their exercises! I also covered pain related behavioral issues and co-operative care in industry, I canโ€™t wait to dive into these topics in more detail over the next few months with our CPD events! Link to the page at the end of the reel.
The day went so fast I didnโ€™t manage to even say hello to all the wonderful students I had with me this year, which made me super sad as I enjoyed having every one of them out with me and would have loved to chat more - but my door is always open should anyone need to chat ๐Ÿฅฐ Hopefully see you all there next year? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Think of veterinary laser therapy like photosynthesis for animals. Instead of using heat to burn or cut, a completely painless, cool light is aimed at the sore area.
It recharges cells. The light penetrates deep into the tissues and acts like a battery charger for damaged cells, giving them the energy to heal much faster.
It blocks pain: The laser calms irritated nerves so they stop sending "ouch" signals to the brain, while naturally releasing the body's own feel-good pain relievers.
It clears out swelling: It opens up blood vessels to bring in fresh oxygen and flushes away the fluid causing painful inflammation.
Because it doesn't hurt and requires no pills, it is especially popular for cats (who are notoriously hard to give medication to) and horses or dogs with stiff, arthritic joints.

One of the most heavily cited papers in veterinary laser therapy looked at whether the treatment could actually replace daily painkillers for arthritic pets.

The Study: โ€œA randomised blind placebo-controlled trial investigating the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on canine elbow osteoarthritisโ€ (Published in BMC Veterinary Research).

What they found: Researchers looked at 20 dogs with chronic arthritis. Half got real laser therapy for 6 weeks, and half got a "placebo" (fake) light treatment.
The Result: 9 out of 11 dogs in the laser group were able to drastically reduce their daily dose of NSAID painkillers, and their lameness scores significantly improved. In the fake-laser group, no dogs were able to reduce their medication.
