⚠️🥵🥵🐾
Please remember a dog's temperature only needs to raise by a couple of degrees to result in heat exhaustion/heatstroke which if untreated can be fatal.

Take your dogs out very early or later when it's cooler - imagine walking/running barefoot with a fur coat on! The pavements get so hot they can burn the dog's paw pads.

If your circumstances mean you can't go out very early/late miss the walk! Surely it's better to keep them safe, cool and hydrated.

Early signs of heatstroke are:
Excessive, noisy panting and drooling even when resting

Bright red, blue or pale gums and tongue

Restlessness, pacing or searching for shade

Glassy, unfocused eyes

What to do?
Get the dog into a shaded, cool or air conditioned area

Pour cool (NOT ICE COLD) water over their body. Use wet towels but don't drape completely over the body as this can trap heat

Offer fresh water but don't force the dog to drink

Vets immediately travelling in an air conditioned or well ventilated vehicle

I and my Dog Groomer friends are grooming very early and/ or later.
If a dog needs clipping it's a dry clip first, bath then let the dog dry naturally so no dryers used on a hot, likely stressed dog.
The groom won't be perfect but 'Welfare over Vanity' every time.

I'm sure most furbaby parents know all of this already but there could be some people with new doggy family members who could find this useful.

I'm sooo thankful for the air conditioning unit in my little salon 🙏

Hi Everyone,
I've been asked to clip short a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. I usually use a 19mm/Lilac CA, but he has a rash. Vet has prescribed a spray & the owners would like him shorter for the spray to be effective on the rash.
How short is OK so to not damage his coat and he still have protection from the sun etc?
Picture is from Google for attention, it's not the actual dog.
TIA 😊
