Really proud of Gatsby today ❤️ there were quite a few dogs on and off lead including a German Shepherd who kept looking at him. His body language remained calm. I’m going to tentatively say that the stem cell, reducing walk distance, increased mental enrichment, raw food diet are all contributing. In addition to the geek in me wanting to learn as much as I can to best support dogs ❤️

The more I learn and observe dogs, particularly those in shelter food was not their thing. Co regulation and knowing your dog can come to you is the most powerful thing. It’s being emotionally available that is a humans super power and will create the most powerful bond.

Your dog is not friendly if they invade the space of another dog uninvited. Particularly if the other dog is on leash and you the owner are nowhere in sight. Unfortunately this is way too common, Most humans have zero understanding of canine body language you judge the dog on the leash barking, growling maybe lunging. Yet you don’t consider your dog triggered this! Would you like a stranger approaching you to give you a frenchie? It’s the same thing! Did you even consider that the dog may be in pain? Maybe the dog is in heat? The dog on leash I will bet my life on has warned the other dog not to get closer but they didn’t listen and approached the dog anyway. This is down to you! Are you on your phone, headphones, dog so strong too difficult to walk? This is certainly not a friendly dog 🐶 it’s one with no manners and it’s down to you to make sure you let your dog off in an environment that is safe and that you have great visibility. My dog was amazing until horrendous interactions so I’m protecting your dogs too. Once your dog has PTSD and pain it’s beyond complex.

Wanted to take Gatsby to the coast when it was quiet where he can engage in his favourite game of retrieving his water float. It’s lovely and peaceful in the cottage. Home environment not just flooring but busyness is really important to a dog. Dogs are individuals and some thrive better in a calm environment where others like the hustle and bustle.
