♥️UPDATE♥️

🐾 Hi, I hope you & your dogs are all keeping well ♥️

Just a quick update as I have been receiving many messages & calls to see if I am open. 🐾

🐾 As of yet the government guidelines haven’t changed, so it is still unsafe to groom your dogs, hopefully some restrictions will be lifted soon, such as non essential businesses being able to reopen & the essential travel clause lifted, which is currently preventing people to drive their dogs to my grooming salon. 🐾

🐾 As you know even vets have not opened their doors unless they have an emergency so please bare with me. We all just have to be sensible and think of each others health right now♥️

🐾 All procedures and guidelines will be in place for when the restrictions are lifted, social distancing, PPE, & disinfecting the salon between grooms, in order to keep you, your dogs, and myself safe.

🐾 I know this is a tough time for you, and your dog may be looking pretty shaggy, getting warm, hair in the eyes, and more knotty, but please continue to brush & comb, it really helps ♥️

🐾 If your dog is matted I may have to clip them down close and start again, as per my de-matting policy, since this is the safest & most comfortable way to deal with a matted coat. As always this will be advised upon inspection of the coat at drop off, and I will only do this if I have no other choice.

🐾 Hopefully things will improve soon and I can re-open. Please stay safe and take care of yourself & your dogs. ♥️

🐾 If you require any further clarification, or have any concerns about your dog’s grooming regime or condition, please get in touch. I will keep you updated as soon as I know of any further changes.♥️

Thank you
Jo

Hi all ♥️

So lots of people are starting to ask about how to groom their own dogs at home as their hair is growing, the weather is warmer and grooming salons are shut.

Being a groomer I just wanted to advise on clipping dogs because you may think they are struggling with the heat due to having a longer coat at the moment.
A dogs fur acts like a thermal regulator to slow down the process of heat absorption.
The less sun and heat that reaches the dogs skin, the less hot the dog will be.
Imagine the dogs fur as a sun parasol, it protects them from the heat and keeps them cool.
If you were to shave the dogs fur you will be taking away the protection and exposing the dog to direct heat leaving them unable to regulate their temperature.
Owners worry that their dogs are panting too much and therefore must be hot. Dogs expel heat from their bodies by panting, compared to us who sweat.
The most important thing you can do for you dog right now is to keep them thoroughly brushed & allow them access to plenty of water and shade.
By brushing your dog you open and separate the coat/hairs allowing for good air flow through the coat. It will also remove their dead undercoat, this will make the dog feel like it has gone from wearing a fleece jacket to a light summer jacket,
I really hope this helps but if you have any questions please feel free to contact me ♥️ Jo ♥️

🐾✂️♥️HOME GROOMING ♥️✂️🐾

🐾 While I’m sure the urge to get those kitchen scissors, craft scissors, hairdressing scissors or what ever scissors you may have to give your furry friend a tidy, I strongly advise that you don’t try, unless you are very confident & it’s something you have done successfully before.

🐾 On some breeds, Shih Tzus, Cockerpoos etc.. fringes might start falling over the eyes, please try training the hair to fall backwards by brushing & combing it back from above the eyes on a daily basis, if it is really long, you can use a small hair clip or bobble, just not too tight.

🐾 Again on similar breeds as stated above you may have the issue of hair spiking up from the top of the nose in front of the eyes. Again try training the hair down as it is growing, I advise using a damp wet comb for this, this will also help keep the area clean of any dried dirt.

🐾 Dogs tend to move their heads a lot when being groomed, so it’s really not safe to use scissors around the eyes. As dog groomers we have had a lot of training and practice, we have the correct tools needed to safely groom your dog to a high standard and the skill to handle the dogs and our equipment correctly.

🐾 I would advise against clipping your dogs fur, the clippers I use in my salon are expensive & have interchangeable quality blades for different fur types. To purchase a decent clipper with the blades needed, you would be looking at over £200, I have seen some home dog grooming attempts and I would not recommend you having a go unless this is something you have done before, instead just continue to brush your dog on a daily basis to keep them matt free ♥️

🐾 If you have already had a go, and it hasn’t worked out how you expected, don’t worry I can sort it out once I’m back at work, after all dogs fur does grow back.. the main thing is you & your dogs safety.

🐾 Please just keep your dogs heads clean, use brushes & combs to keep them tidy until I reopen. However if you are concerned or need extra advice, drop me a message or give me a call on 07305219687

🐾 Thank you, Jo ♥️
