It's a momentous day here today, as Rob and I hand over the reins of Whiterails Livery to the new owners, Great Melton Farms, from midnight tonight.
35 years ago, Rob decided to set up a livery as a diversification business and it has grown beyond expectations over that time. We'd like to say an enormous 'Thank you' to everyone who has supported us and the livery over the last 35 years.
We tried to tot up how many horses we've known but soon lost count, but we can never forget the wonderful Barney and Percy.
Thank you everyone, Rob and I send you all, and your horses, our very best wishes for the future. We know you're in safe hands.

As promised, here is the exciting new opportunity for a livery yard manager at Whiterails Livery!

Due to the retirement of outgoing tenants, we are supporting Great Melton Estate to recruit a confident and highly organised Livery Yard Manager to run a well-respected and thriving livery business as it comes back in hand, this is an important appointment to continue the exceptional reputation and hard work of the previous owners as the business becomes part of the wider Estate.
We are looking for an experienced, confident and highly organised Livery Yard Manager to join a professional equestrian yard in Norfolk.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on horse care with team leadership, organisation and excellent customer service.
THE ROLE
You will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the yard, ensuring the highest standards of horse welfare, facilities and client service. You will lead and support the team of yard grooms, organising daily duties and ensuring the yard operates efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Day-to-day management of the livery yard
• Overseeing the care and welfare of all the horses (up to circa 50)
• Managing daily turnout and bringing in
• Leading, supporting and organising a team of 4 grooms
• Allocating daily tasks and maintaining high standards
• Monitoring yard cleanliness, safety and presentation
• Communicating professionally with livery clients
• Managing feeds, forage, bedding and yard supplies
• Supporting health and worming management
• Coordinating vets, farriers and other professionals
• Maintaining excellent biosecurity and welfare standards
• Ensuring facilities and equipment are kept safe and well maintained
• Being proactive in identifying and resolving issues

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH A GENUINE COMMITMENT TO HORSE WELFARE AND HIGH STANDARDS WHO HAS:
* Previous yard management or supervisory experience
* Experience managing or leading a small team
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills
* Strong communication and customer-service skills
* A high level of attention to detail
*A practical, hands-on approach
You will need to be reliable, professional, calm under pressure and confident making decisions independently.

Whiterails Livery is changing!
After 35 years, we have decided to pass on the reins of Whiterails Livery to a new owner.
From October 1st 2026 the new owner will be Great Melton Farms, a local, family-owned company which is already an integral part of the village community. You may be familiar with their Christmas trees enterprise or their other livery at Wong Farm, and they have a rich rural and agricultural heritage right on our doorstep in Great Melton.
We are excited to see how they will work with our resilient and dedicated team as they continue to provide excellent care to the horses and clients here at Whiterails. Although it feels like the end of an era, we know they will take Whiterails Livery from strength to strength and we wish them, our staff and all our current and future clients every success in the future!
As part of this change, there is an exciting career opportunity for someone to join the team as the livery yard manager, so keep your eyes peeled for a job advert very shortly!

Lovely drive around Silfield last weekend, cool breezes made it a perfect temperature and the Old Boy was very well behaved!

And just like that, the Royal Norfolk show has been and gone! We’ve had a hot couple of days stewarding at the show and have seen and been impressed by how well all the livestock and horses have been cared for in the heat, especially on Wednesday. Lots of shade, fans, water, cool down water stations and a team of vets on hand in case of problems. The grand parade of animals was cancelled on Wednesday because of the heat, so the livestock stayed in their cool sheds.
Tbh, a lot of the animals were cooler at the show than they would’ve been at home in their fields. Most competitors travelled to the show in the cooler days before the show or overnight, rather than the heat of the day. It was an honest display of great animal husbandry and animal welfare and huge thanks to the RNAA for their preparation and care.
