Kiran Brice APDT CH MIACE
Pet Behaviour Counsellor/Behaviour Centre Manager

Kiran has worked for the practice as the Behaviour Centre manager for over 20 years and is a full time dog behaviourist and qualified trainer. She is a full member of the APDT (no:00353), ABTC certified member and is a charter member of the institute of animal care education. She also holds a diploma in Pet Bereavement and Nutrition; Kiran specialises in aggressive dogs and has a background in breeding and working German Shepherds.

Why not give someone a beautiful, hand drawn portrait of their much loved pet?

Each portrait is individually created using professional coloured pencils, capturing all those little details that make our pets so special.

Ball Obsession in Dogs šŸ„Ž

Does your dog love their ball or are they actually obsessed with it? Thereā€™s a big difference.

I see dogs who are completely fixated on a ball. They canā€™t switch off when one is around, constantly stare at it, pester their owner to throw it and ignore everything else and going on around them.

A ball can be a fantastic training reward. I use them myself but I want the Dog to work with me for the ball rather than the ball becoming the whole focus.
If your dog is ball obsessed, try changing how you use it

Keep the ball away when youā€™re not actively using it.
Use it as a reward for recall, engagement or other training.
Keep throwing sessions short rather than endlessly repeating them.
Mix ball play with sniffing, exploring and calmer activities.
Teach your Dog that the end of the game really does mean the end.

Iā€™m certainly not saying donā€™t play ball with your dog but thereā€™s a big difference between the dog who enjoys a ball and a dog who simply canā€™t switch off when one appears

A lovely example of just how much engagement you can achieve with your dog!
Something Iā€™m always encouraging owners to do at Puppy PlayBarn is to be far more enthusiastic when rewarding their dogs. So many owners are quite reserved with their praise, when a little more enthusiasm can make such a difference. Training should be enjoyable for both ends of the lead, and this is a lovely example of that!
