🐴 OUT OF OFFICE – I’M OFF TO PASTURES NEW! 🌴

I’m currently away on holiday, swapping horses, massage and emails for sunshine, relaxation and a well-earned break! ☀️🍹

I’ll be back on 4th September and will get back to you as soon as I can once I’ve put my riding boots back on and caught up with everything.

In the meantime, please don’t worry — your message is safely in the stable and will be dealt with when I return! 🐎

Thank you for your patience and see you soon.

I wrote this book after hosting several natural gut health workshops and realising how many horse owners needed help and guidance with feeding their horses naturally. The book offers a holistic view of horse management, pin points what our horses are...

After losing my darling Frankie, today I’ve chosen my next best friend who will be coming home in 4 weeks. We’ve named him Basil 🌿 and once he’s had all his jabs he will be part of the Touch Equine team and is very much looking forward to meeting you all 🐾🤎

Let’s have a serious talk about hard ground and how it affects your horse 🤔

Cantering and jumping on very hard ground causes severe concussion, putting extreme stress on a horse’s bones, joints, and tendons. It significantly elevates the risk of arthritis, bruised soles, tendon damage, and fractures. Vets and equine experts strongly advise against doing any repetitive high-impact work on concrete-like surfaces.

Why is hard ground dangerous for our horses? The primary issue with hard ground is the lack of shock absorption. When a horse lands from a jump or strikes the ground at a canter, the impact sends a shockwave directly up the leg, which can lead to arthritis and joint inflammation, strain on the tendons and ligaments (not just legs), muscle strain which can lead to back, shoulder and hamstring issues as well as bone fatigue.

We have had barely any significant rain fall since the beginning to May and nothing in the last 5 weeks! Yes it’s frustrating when we can’t enjoy a usual summer hack but I think this might be the start of the norm!

But did you know that just like humans power walking is a great way to keep your horse fit as well as giving their muscles a good work out! Ask your horse to really walk out to the point they feel like they could break into trot as well as adding in some lateral work for suppleness.

It’s really not worth that canter right now! Yes they canter in the field but they don’t have us on top putting them off balance! Trust me I scream at my horses if they start cantering around, my neighbours must know all the names of my horses off by heart 😂😂

Please like and share this post, by sharing we might educate somebody that doesn’t realise the impact the ground is having on their horse.

☀️☀️ Treating horses during a heatwave☀️☀️

I know it’s incredibly frustrating when I have to rearrange your appointment so I thought I would explain why this sometimes happens.

When we have temperatures over 28 sometimes the real feel can be more like a good few degrees more and then we have to factor in the humidity. The horses natural way of cooling themselves down is to sweat and blood vessels dilate near the skin to release excess heat.

Massage and myofascial release artificially increases the horse’s blood flow which in turn can make them hotter than they already are and can push their already high body temperature even higher.

I hope this explains why this sometimes happens, I only ever have YOUR horse’s best interest at heart.

Also don’t forget to make sure your horses are getting extra salt in their diets, tell tale sign of them lacking it is they will attempt to lick you a lot! Stay cool everyone 💕
