The importance of biosecurity 🔬
We all love our horses and carefully consider their feed and exercise—but how often do we think about biosecurity? It’s a crucial part of keeping our horses healthy and disease-free, and at Easton College, we take it incredibly seriously.
Recently, one horse presented with an elevated temperature and, as a precaution, was immediately isolated alongside the rest of their herd. Our veterinary team attended promptly, and we carried out a full series of tests while following strict veterinary guidance.
We are pleased to confirm that all test results have come back negative for equine influenza, and it is most likely the horse experienced an allergic reaction. This horse has been with us for a long time and has not travelled or been in contact with external horses, further reducing risk.
At Easton College, we take biosecurity extremely seriously. With the recent increase in cases of strangles and equine influenza in Norfolk, we are being particularly cautious. We are pleased to say that we have not had any cases of either disease. As part of our proactive approach:
✅ All horses have been closely monitored for signs of health and illness
✅ Regular temperature checks have been carried out
✅ Veterinary advice and strict biosecurity protocols have been followed at all times
If we were ever to have a confirmed case of either strangles or equine influenza, the yard would immediately go into lockdown, with all curricular and commercial activities stopping straight away and the relevant authorities and stakeholders being informed.
Implementing strong biosecurity measures immediately is the only way to proactively protect our herd, and this remains our top priority at all times.
