I recently helped a Saluki cross with his excitement around other dogs. We worked on actively praising calm, slow moving behaviour, and trained and implemented a positive back-up to help with focus on handler and disengagement. Haku was there to help, and at the end they had a game of tug together!

Here are some of the pups attending recent classes. This time round, we had such a friendly and excitable cohort of puppies! So we concentrated on a few more calm socialisation and settle exercises. In Advancers this time round we introduced 'side' for handling confidence along with a few more challenging obedience exercises.

When you join my classes, I always ask permission about sharing photographs, and anyone can change their permissions at any time.

I've been visiting this little ray of sunshine recently! We had some early visits to avoid the heat, and worked on helping her walk nicely with her owners instead of putting the brakes on whenever she saw a doggy friend. We worked in the garden first, before putting it into practice on an outside walk.

This customer was so satisfied he fell asleep before I left! I was called in for this youngster as the owners were struggling with progressing his separation anxiety issues. It can be tricky getting started and undestanding when to push forward and when to make things easier again. We worked to tailor the training to the pup's level of discomfort and timing - when to return and how long to leave him, as well as concentrating on effective voice feedback when the owner was stepping out of sight.

I often recommend the 'slicker brush' in class. This weekend I finally got a good video of it in action. It's my favourite tool for brushing stuff out of longer dog coats.

Thank you to Haku for being so obliging and running through a huge pile of sticky w**d, apparently also called 'cleavers'!

This little pup had a pre-class session with me, mainly to help build his confidence and to work on some strategies for introducing him more calmly to the cats at home. He spent the first few moments barking his head off at me, but we soon became friends.

To help with his confidence, he learned a chin touch, and we practised what to do when he sees something scary while out and about. We also worked on ways to stop people from rushing over to touch him. It's a curse when you're shy but look so cute!

This two year old cockapoo has been making excellent progress with loose lead. She was a serial puller, but after a few sessions her loose lead outside is looking very impressive. We are now starting to work on her barking when she sees other dogs, so as you can probably guess, Haku is due for a visit!

Never too young to learn - At 8 weeks old, puppies are already capable of learning far more than most people realise. This clever little pup learned “send to bed” and a calm “sleepy” settle pose in just one session!
