✨ Why Being a Behaviourist Made Me Want to Dog Walker ✨

Dog walking and dog behaviour go hand in hand.

When you understand behaviour, every walk becomes an opportunity.

An opportunity to build confidence.
An opportunity to reduce stress.
An opportunity to teach calm choices.
An opportunity to create positive experiences.

I don’t just see a dog pulling on a lead.

I ask:
• Why are they pulling?
• Are they stressed?
• Are they overexcited?
• Are they frustrated?
• What can I do to help them succeed?

I don’t just manage behaviour—I help change it.

That means safer walks, happier dogs, and better outcomes for owners.

My experience has taught me how to manage groups and understand canine communication. Becoming a behaviourist taught me how to use that knowledge to improve dogs’ lives.

Together, those skills allow me to offer something much more than exercise.

They allow me to provide understanding.

Because every behaviour is communication, and every dog deserves to be listened to. ❤️

What Success Looks Like

✨🐕

Success isn’t always dramatic.

Sometimes success looks like:

🐾 One less bark
🐾 A calmer walk
🐾 Better focus
🐾 A quicker recall

Small improvements become big transformations over time.

Teaching “Wait” can improve safety and impulse control.

Practice at:
✔️ Doors
✔️ Gates
✔️ Car boots
✔️ Food bowls

Small moments of self-control lead to better decisions in bigger situations.

📢 Information for Owners of Exempt Dogs in England and Wales 📢

There are two upcoming changes to the legal requirements for owners of exempt dogs:

🔹 From 1 July 2026 – Third-party liability insurance will no longer be a legal requirement for dogs on the Index of Exempted Dogs.

🔹 From 1 November 2026 – It will become an offence to leave a child under the age of 12 unsupervised with an exempt dog.

While this new requirement applies only to exempt dogs, i believe that children should never be left unsupervised with any dog, regardless of breed. Responsible supervision is essential, as any dog can react unpredictably in certain situations, particularly when interactions with children are not properly managed.

🐾 Dog safety and responsible ownership remain important for all breeds. Education, supervision, and responsible handling play a key role in helping to prevent incidents involving dogs and children.

For anyone looking for additional guidance, the British College of Canine Studies has made its Dogs & Children Safety Guide available to download free of charge:

Dogs and Children Safety Download This free download is especially of interest to those of us who are parents as well as dog owners, in response to far too many news reports and horrific incidents involving the family pet attacking a child in the household.
