Positively Canine is a small company that offers fun dog sessions, group classes, one to one training and workshops. They include, scent work, clicker training, rally and Parkour
As well as various events throughout the year. It doesn't matter what level of training you and your dog are at, everyone is welcome!. Classes include, puppy classes, Parkour and Rally

All dogs need mental stimulation an

d this is a great way to give them that. Dogs that don't get enough mental stimulation can suffer from behavioural problems such as excessive barking, digging, jumping up, not paying attention to you and many more. We also offer one to one help and advice with training, specialising in puppies, recall and loose lead walking. If you have any other requirements please do not hesitate to ask, I will do my best to accommodate.

We have ONE final place for our Scentwork Progression day at Diggerland this Wednesday.

A whole day of scentwork in a venue we definitely don’t get to train in every week! 😍

Think diggers, machinery, unusual search areas, different surfaces, new challenges… and lots of opportunities to see just what your dog’s nose can do. 👃🐶

It’s a small group, so there’s plenty of individual working time and we can tailor the day to the dogs and handlers who are there.

🐕👃 Why do I LOVE taking scentwork into unusual venues?

Because that's when things get interesting. 🤓

When dogs first learn scentwork, we quite rightly make things achievable. We want them to understand the game, build confidence and absolutely LOVE searching.

But as they progress, we can start asking different questions.

What happens when the environment changes?

What happens when scent doesn't behave quite how the handler expects?

What happens when there are lots of other smells competing for our dog's attention?

And what happens when WE don't know where the hide is? 👀

Training in somewhere like Chillingham Castle gives us an incredible opportunity to explore all of this.

It's not simply about finding a hide.

It's about learning to watch your dog.

Trusting what they're telling you.

Understanding how the environment might be influencing the search.

Knowing when to help and when to keep quiet and let that amazing nose do its job!

And yes… occasionally realising your dog knew exactly where the scent was several minutes before you did. 😂

That's one of the things I love most about scentwork.

The more you learn, the more you realise just how much there is still to learn. 🐾🧠

We'll be exploring LOTS of this during our three day Chillingham Castle event in March 2027.

And I have a feeling we're going to get very geeky indeed. 🤓🏰

👃🐾 IF YOUR DOG COULD CHOOSE… WHAT WOULD THEY SEARCH FOR?

We're getting ready to welcome our new Scentwork Series teams soon, and all this talk about motivation has got me thinking… 😂

If your dog was completely in charge of the search, what would be their ultimate find?
🥩 A piece of sausage?
🎾 Their favourite ball?
🧦 A suspiciously stolen sock?
💩 Something absolutely disgusting that we humans would rather they hadn't found?! 😂

One of the things I love about scentwork is that dogs are individuals.

What makes one dog think “YESSSS! LET ME AT IT!” might get a very underwhelming response from another.
And that's really important when we're training.

We can decide what we think should be rewarding, but ultimately the dog gets to decide what they actually find rewarding. 👃🧠

Finding that thing your dog REALLY values can completely change the enthusiasm they bring to a search.
That's some of the geekery behind Module 1 – Motivation. 🤓

Our September Module 1 is now FULLY BOOKED 🎉, so for now I'm going to keep sharing little bits of scentwork theory and some of the thinking behind how I train it.

🚜🐾 Why on earth do we do scentwork at places like Diggerland?

Apart from the obvious answer… because searching around massive diggers is pretty cool 😂

There’s actually a lot of training value in taking scentwork away from our usual training environment.

Dogs can become very good at searching in familiar places, but change the environment and suddenly there’s a whole new set of challenges.

Different surfaces.
Different air movement.
Novel smells.
More environmental distractions.
Strange objects and places to search.

And for us humans, it’s a chance to learn too. 🤓

How does your dog’s searching change in a new environment?

Do they need a little more support initially?

Are you able to recognise when they're genuinely working scent rather than investigating something interesting?

Can you stand back, trust your dog and let that nose do what it does best? 👃🐶

That’s one of the things I love about taking our scentwork on the road. It’s not simply about finding the hide it’s about developing the whole dog and handler team.

And Diggerland gives us a LOT to work with. 🚜😂

In March 2027 we're heading back to Chillingham Castle in Northumberland for a full three day dog training experience.

And this isn't simply three days of doing searches.

We've put together three completely different days designed to get you thinking, learning, experimenting and, most importantly, having a brilliant time with your dog.

A fascinating look at both ends of the lead how our emotions and our dogs' emotions can affect performance, communication and confidence.

Well… that didn't take long! 😂

All four places on the first Scentwork Series – Module 1: Motivation have now been snapped up. ❤️🐾

Thank you so much, I'm genuinely excited to get started with our four new scentwork teams on the 16th September.

We're going to be building motivation, confidence, persistence and, most importantly, dogs who think searching is the BEST game ever. 🔥👃

My new Scentwork Series – Module 1: Motivation is now down to its LAST PLACE! 🎉

There are only four dogs on this course because I want everyone to get plenty of individual working time, and three of those places have already been snapped up. ❤️

We start right at the foundations , not rushing to target odour, but developing a dog who genuinely wants to search.

We'll be building motivation, confidence, persistence and that lovely “LET ME AT IT, I know it's here somewhere!” attitude. 😂👃

There'll be plenty of practical training, a bit of getting geeky with the theory 🤓, and you'll start learning much more about what your dog's nose and their behaviour is telling you.

👃🐾 WHY DO WE START WITH MOTIVATION?

When people think of scent detection, they often assume the first thing we need to do is teach the dog which scent they're looking for.

But that's not where I like to start.
Before I worry about target odour, indications or complicated searches, I want something much more important…
🔥 A dog who genuinely WANTS to hunt.
Because when searches eventually become longer, trickier or the hide isn't immediately obvious, I don't want to have to keep persuading the dog to carry on.

I want the dog thinking…
“I KNOW it's here somewhere… I'm finding it!” 😂

That's why Module 1 of my Scentwork Series is all about MOTIVATION.
We're building desire to search, persistence when things get harder, confidence to work independently and most importantly making the whole thing ridiculously good fun. ❤️

And here's where we start getting a little geeky… 🤓

We're also thinking about reinforcement.
What does this individual dog really value?

Food? A toy? A game? Interaction with their human?

Because what one dog thinks is absolutely AMAZING, another might think isn't worth getting out of bed for. 😂

Understanding what motivates the dog in front of us and learning how to use that effectively is a huge part of building a strong search dog.

We're not trying to make the dog search.
We're trying to create a dog who can't wait to search. 👃🔥

And once we've got that foundation…
THEN we can start building everything else.

Over four weeks we'll work on developing that motivation, confidence, persistence and desire to hunt , giving us the foundations we can build on as we progress through the Scentwork Series.
